Who is the best player we've had?

Nice and easy for me - Anderson de Silva.

Good shout. He'd be in my top three.

    Cracking question.

Anderson was majestic at his best, and the most excited I've ever been over a deadline day signing when we got him permenantly.

For consistency and contribution over the whole period I'd say Foster.

Over short periods of time JCR, Hammill and Vaz Te were exceptional. I also thought Drinkwater was a cut above.

On a controversial note I actually thought the first incarnation of Hugo Colace was excellent.

Hammill and Vaz Te at their best were truly unplayable - unfortunately all of those who were real quality weren't with us for two minutes

Muller, best keeper we've had in my forty odd years of torture...

He would be my shout as well
closely followed by Da Silva, Vas Te, Hammill and Howard
Hon mentions to Stones and Butterfield as best we've produced ourselves

I've been watching Barnsley since dinosaurs walked the Earth and Heinz Muller is the best goalkeeper I've seen play for us in that time. Conan's question helped me realise and appreciate that, despite struggling most seasons, we've seen some excellent players turn out for us during the past seven years. Of the current crop, Chris O'Grady stands out for me. As Stahlrost frequently & accurately (in my opinion) points out, O'Grady is the best centre forward we've had since Neil Shipperley left twelve years ago.

Bobby Hassell without a doubt for me. Steve Foster a close second. Reliable, dependable and loyal. Can't do owt about advancing years otherwise they would be still regulars.

Vaz Te and Hammill were brilliant but not here long enough. Brian Howard was good until he began to get his head stuck in door frames.

Heinz Müller's arms are 9 feet long but for me he too was not here long enough.

Neil Shipperley was the last centre forward we had who was as good as Chris O'Grady.

Interesting reading this thread, here's one for you.. What would your starting XI be made up only of players since we returned to the second tier?
