nice touch from BFC at Bournemouth

    my lad's just phoned to sat Ben Mansford and Jimbo(who is injured)are giving out free drinks vouchers as a little thanks to the travelling faithful

    It is a nice touch but I have to question why don't they do things like this (minus the free drinks) at home games where they are lkely to leave a good impression on the young kids who are watching Barnsley for the first time.

    Who will appreciate seeing one of our players saying hellow to them most a 10 year old or a 46 year old?

    I'm not knocking their effort tonight to interact with the fans, I just think it's a crying shame that they only think to do that to the already converted lucky few instead of putting in the effort to do the same with fans at our own ground. It's not like we've been short of injured players to send into the stands is it. Cranie could have been out there every week, Hassell the same. Has a board member ever left the boardroom on home match days? It's early days for Mansford yet so I hope this is just the start of things to come but I'd really like to see more attempts made to interact with ALL the fans, not just a select few.

    Good luck organizing free Hand out for 8000 people, rather then a couple of hundred away at Bournemouth.

    That's why I said minus the free drinks. I'm talking about the interacting with the fans, not the offering of free drinks to fans. All our players that aren't in the match squad goup in the executive box in the corner of the ground. The directors go in the boardroom. I just don't think it would be much to ask for them to get out and about in the stands and meet their customers occasionally like they have tonight.

    Not at all. I suggested exactly the same thing last season (or the season before) without knowing that they'd do this tonight.

    I see, in which case I agree. Think it's the symptom of the US and them mentality in football these days.

    I don't think it's that (though it may be) as much as it's simply that they don't actually think about doing it. They don't consciously decide not to they just never think about it in the first place. Hopefully the reaction they got from the fans they met tonight will make mansford think about doing the same at home matches occasionally.

    Personally I couldn't give a monkeys about meeting him. I just go to watch the footy. The free drink would have been welcome though.

    I don't either but i'm sure lots of kids do which is why I think players should be out and about to ensure that these kids become the next lot of die hards who will go to bournemouth away on a tuesday night

    I think that board members should be to get real first hand accounts of customer experiences. How many times did Don Rowing claim that he didn't know the TV's weren't turned on for example? That's because he didn't set foot outside of the comfy board room. If he had walked around the stands even just once a year he would have seen the TV's turned off, seen the mess that is the catering and customers could have approached him with any thoughts. I just think it's good for the heads of companies to meet their customers in the real customer environment (tesco directors working in stores for example) as we all know that meeting fans in pre-arranged meetings is totally different to meeting them at the time when they're queuing up for a pie for half an hour because there is only one person with the mathematical skills of a 4 year old serving. It'd be good for him as much as for the fans. I'm sure he'd also get lots of positive comments given to him and would take a lot of heart from it.

    How would that work then ST? Giving out free drinks vouchers that exclude the free drinks? Would it just be a blank piece of paper? or could they put a smiley face on it. I'm sure it would go down well at our home games.

    If they were smiley faces then they'd have to be printed, it'd take ages to draw them all. I think for that reason they'd have to be blank. Perhaps they could have a big pot of those little pens like they have at argos so fans could draw their own smiley faces.

    It would just be a voucher then. Maybe can be used for away cup tickets, category after the Colchester stubs.

    That is a very good idea. We could leave them on our seats at the end with either a smiley face or a sad face and it could be used as a customer satisfaction survey.

    The point he's making is a good one though. Young children who are the lifeblood of our future would appreciate it more, but obviously on a school night aren't going to be down there watching us.
