No Point Prolonging The Situation

Think he deserves 5 more games. If the situation doesn't get any better then look for a replacement. There's no time for waiting around in this business. Leave it to late and we will be fighting for our life's like last season

I was one of those who didn't want him. No shame in admitting that. You can count the amount of BBS users who did want him on one hand.
But he was the manager when the team turned it around. And he was credited for that.
I still back him now. I am saying he deserves time. But how many said the same when Davey kept us up, and took us to Wembley, when he lost 5 of the first 6??
Flicker cannot dine out on that survival forever. He has dumped two key components of that run at the end, and tried getting shut of another..
I think it's madness to not be questioning his position. Never felt as embarrassed at a start to a season. Regular home thrashings? No thanks.

 

Trainspotting club historians will know better than me but letting in six, two fives and a four in eight games maybe our worst ever run. Like most on here I want Flitcroft to succeed. He needs to find a method of retaining some of the characteristics of last season whilst balancing this against the demands of a 46 game season. We need to go out to win games not attempt poorly to nullify the opposition. Players need to be picked on merit rather than favouritism. We need to ship out 4 or 5 players on loan before even contemplating further incomings. Management is about managing successfully those employees you view as 'more difficult' he needs to demonstrate how he will build bridges with those he has alienated. These would be the sort of questions I was asking him today and dependent on the quality of answers given would decide how to proceed. The Wednesday game would seem a reasonable time frame to tackle all these issues and demonstrate improvement. Otherwise a parting of the ways would seem inevitable.

 

I'd give him 3 games

vote of confidence meanwhile being doing due diligence on replacement options. 3 clean sheets and a minimum of 3 points, fair dos. 3 heavy defeats and not one person on here will be fighting his corner.

There are no easy games

if we are going to get 45 points, he's got to take something from the supposed top teams, we've done ok at Leicester in recent times, dont see any reason why we cant get something at home against Reading, and as I said, 3 heavy defeats irrespective of opposition and his position will be untenable anyway.

 

I'm not too fussed what happens today tbh. If he goes, he goes. If he stays, he stays. I just want us to start playing proper football again just like last season. He needs to start playing the correct formation that worked for us last season. He needs to start playing players in they're correct positions, for example, Mellis and Dawson. I like both of them and last season Dawson was my POTY, with Mellis just behind him. And now both of them are looking useless this season, all because they're getting played out wide. Kennedy needs to dropped, he's the weak link in our squad IMO. Reuben is far a better player than Kennedy and should be playing week in week out. And most importantly, Bobby needs to be involved somewhere, whether it's on bench or in first 11. In my eyes Bobby needs to be playing.

The one thing he needs is to settle on a team, formation and style of play. How does giving him 3 games allow him to do that? It will just end up in treating each game indiviudally which will result in 3 different formations to play the opposition in front of us. We need stability and coherence, not short termism and panic.

 

Who would you bring in? I don't think he should be sacked today but it can't be far off. If we were losing by the odd goal and showing fight that would be one thing. But constantly letting in 3s, 4s and 5s and just rolling over will probably make sure he's gone by the next international break so we have that to find someone else.

 

Applying a purely statistical analysis, let's say we are on average 40% to win a game (which is a bit generous). Out of any 8 games the probability of us winning 1 or less of those games is 0.106. Given Flitcroft's number of games in charge, during those games we would be about 34% to have a run of 8 games where we won 1 or less. Therefore our current run is not statistically significant.

It oversimplifies matters, but the fact remains that football supporters overlook the issue of variance.

 

There is some merit on this however you could apply stats of losing 3 of six home games by four clear goals and they wouldn't look too sprightly.

 

If David Flitcroft loses his job

Personally, I'm not convinced we'll attract an experienced Championship manager, or big name player at the end of his career whose looking to cut his teeth in management. It's been proved time and time again, a new man coming in will not get the opportunity & time to build a team/squad before the knives are out. The club appears to have a reputation within the industry of impatience and knee jerk reactions. This is probably why there always appears to be a lack of quality with the applicants when the position of manager becomes available. Even when we target particular individuals, there appears to be a reluctance to take up the offer of employment with the club. I think it's more likely we'd target someone from the lower leagues, followed quickly by claims that the club lacks any ambition. Perhaps, Mr Watkins & Mr Mansford can alter this perception for the better. Perhaps they're prepared to be more patient with the present manager than some fans.
I'm just glad it's not me making the sort of decisions others find quite easy, safe in the knowledge there's no consequences if they're wrong with their simple assessments.

unless flitcroft goes into the meeting giving it the big I am, I will be staggered if he's sacked, having said that he needs to be left in nodoubt that the clock is ticking and he has to get shut of some of the dross he has signed before anymore come in

 

Lost 3 by the odd goal, lost 3 heavily, won 1 drawn 1.

Down to 10 men in 2 of the heavy defeats although Wigan were home and hosed but Blackburn maybe it changed the outcome, especially with manager and players totally crumbling in a heap after the dismissal.

 

I'd be surprised

If anyone goes into such meetings, especially when given the current position & performances, making demands of their superiors. Neither do I believe he's oblivious to the current situation. I may not agree with his solutions to certain problems, but that doesn't mean I think he's unaware of their existence. I don't think David Flitcroft will be sacked. I do believe he will be questioned on why we're second from bottom in the table, conceding bucket loads of goals, when his demands of how the players should be looked after (for example) have supposedly been met. I've no doubt any request for new recruitment will be assessed on it's own merits, balancing it with the need to trim the current squad of individuals who have no future at the club.

 

I think the point is that despite a bad start, we're not a million miles off of where we want to be.

For me, Flicker is young, he's still learning and is making big mistakes at the minute. He needs another month or two to show that he is learning from those mistakes, if we keep going into games with the wrong selections like on Saturday then he's clearly not learning. I think he will though and we'll be reyt be Christmas, forever the optimist.

 

He will probably do that anyway. Why do you think he is gonna change all of a sudden when we have had an eclectic mix of formations and personnel so far?
