Hello Kev Excuse my ignorance, but do I take it that you were a professional wrestler in your youth? If so, I just wondered if you'd heard of, or met, Steve Best? He was my form teacher and my maths teacher at Holgate School in the early 70's. His real name was Mr Adams, I think. Very lightweight, wrestling wise. Seemed a nice bloke though. Watched him on the ITV wrestling programme on a Saturday pm a few times. And good to hear that your daughter is enjoying Uni. Are you joining the Leicester dig? Sorry, mate , lots of questions and you don't even know me!
He was my maths teacher at Holgate two, what year were you in? I remember his wrestling well and he took a lot of stick for it, as he usually lost. 8 out of 6 pupils thought he was a great maths teacher though.
Thamks, Stahlrost. (incidentally what is the reason behind your user name?). I was at Holgate from 1968 to 1975, and I think he was my form teacher in my O-level year, 1973. Yes, you're right, Steve Best did often seem to lose his wrestling bouts! I wonder if he's still alive?
Laughing.. The only thing lil wrestled with in his youth was whether to have a sausage or bacon sandwich for his snap
I think you were a year behind me as I left in 1974 to go to uni. If you were into football you may remember the great team we had in those days, won just about everything, school champions of Yorkshire at U18 level in 1974 and got to semi finals of the national competition. I was the keeper, although I never had owt to do. If we'd had the internet in those days I could have mucked about on Farcebook during most games. By the way, we used to play 442 hee hee! Don't even ask about my user name, too long a story for on here and not really suitable for female members...........
Yes, I was a year behind you, Stahlrost. And I played keeper too (we won the U15 league and cup double, including the cup final at Oakwell! Players such as Gillespie, Quin, England, me - I had trials with Barnsley Boys that year). I remember your team winning everything, and the cup competitions. Were you the brother of the games teacher? Hey guys, if I got it wrong about JLWBigLil, I do apologise. I didn't want to put people off their meals (although I've eaten mine now - heehee). No doubt I'll hear from the great man himself?
I hope you noticed that I didnt just put the photo on, I made it so you had to make a conscious decision to look at the pic ? Just in case you were of a delicate nature
Druss is on the left, BigLil in the middle, myself on the right and Laura, Big Lil`s daughter is the female, well the good looking one I really mean !
Games teacher was Mr McLintock, his brother was a year above me and was also a keeper, kept me on the bench in my lower 6th year but I moved up when he left. Funnily enough he also went to Nottingham Uni and we ended up playing in the same uni team there, I was in goal and he played in central defence. I played in an U15 cup final at Oakwell too, presumably the year before you. We played Kendray Oaks, I think. It was close, we won 16 - 0. I was man of the match...........
