Its depressing enough being the poor northern relative we have always been perceived as. If the club does well it lifts the whole area, if it fails it just depresses the hell out of the supporters and followers which has a knock on effect to the well being and even the income of everyone. I may seem a little maudlin on this but anyone of a certain age know this to be true as they will have seen it time and again.
I wish people would just stop wanting Barnsley Football Club to be successful. Look in the mirror, grow some balls, accept that all other clubs are bigger and better than us and lower your expectations. The cheek of some people.
.........couldn't agree more Pat Cryne is the most important person from Barnsley when considering the economics of the town Much more influential then Sir Steve The town needs a Championship club.............and that's why I hate SCAB supporters (new term for you there which I have just made up) 'SCAB supporter'..........a football supporter who deserts their own town football club
"Attendances suggest not." That really grates me - all you're doing is comparing us to big city clubs. Over 10,000 every week for a town (not metropolitan borough) of only 75,000 with about 15 alternatives within 40 miles. Our town is no bigger than Rochadale, Chesterfield, Donny, Rotherham, Northampton, Swindon just to name a few. I reckon on that basis there's only Burnley drawing in a bigger %. Crowds are bigger than anybody's in the Spanish, Italian, German, or any other country you name's 2nd tier. Even better than the likes of Hearts, hibs, Aberdeen, Dundee United etc who are considered the giants of Scottish football behind Celtic & Rangers. We're taking in approx £250,000 a game and you say Barnsley doesn't care whether it has a football team.
The same could be said of Oldham,Bradford,Darlington etc etc etc etc etc we have no divine right to be in football league never mind championship. Its by the guidance of good footballing people and dedicated owners, staff etc we are where we are let's get off their backs and support em.
It's treason not to support your birthplace town. I have just pegged out our shirts ready for the Tuesday game in the knowledge I have Leeds supporters to the left, Sheffield utd supporters to the right and wed supporters across the road. But I respect them as they are supporting their teams as they should. Wife is a barnsley supporter from goole but they ain't got a team.
5.4% of the borough watch us at Oakwell. Only 3% of the city of Leeds watch their club. You dunt afe talk some ***** in your perpetual attempts to deride the efforts of your supposed fellow supporters. I notice you rarely - if ever - give an opinion on the games/players. I'm starting to think you're one of Nudgers "desserts". Spotted dick, perhaps?
..............'treason not to support your birthplace town'........and then..........'respecting Sheffield and Leeds supporters' If these fans are from Sheffield and Leeds or they have links to Sheffield and Leeds then that's fair enough..........if not they are SCAB supporters As for your wife...........obviously she loves you so much she dosent want to be away from you .........even when you are visiting the WELL
