Seen enough tonight to feel more optimistic. Pedersen's control is brilliant.... Sure he will score plenty for us. O Grady's work rate McCourt's craft. Think it bodes well. But mellis just does not impose himself. I know he's out of position, but if he is as talented as he sometimes shows he needs to take the game by the scruff if the neck. Cwyka showed some great touches at speed in the last fifteen minutes. I'd give him a place ahead of Mellis. Kennedy needs to know when to bomb on... I.e when we are one nil down, he has twenty yards of clear space, and his position is covered. Much better tonight though
In the past he has been slightly disappointing when started but he has never had a run of starts so has always got the uncertainty of knowing he will be dropped if he isn't sparkling in his one starting opportunity. Give him a run and I am sure he can be an asset.
When have you seen cywka do that for 80-90 mins? He is a impact player. You can't judge a player on 20 mins of football when the opposition are f*cked from running around for 70 minutes. I said he should start over a month ago but every time he has this season and last he's been very disappointing. I think we were good with the team that started tonight. Very positive and some great football flicker will be crazy to change it satursay
No but Cwyka has contributed far more than Mellis already this season. Mellis just doesn't fit in. He wants to play in the hole or in centre mid. We're not going to let him do that. I'd get shut. I think he's decent, but he's just complicating the issue. Stop playing him in positions where we have plenty of options.
Ok so we get rid of Mellis. Can't use Jennings because he's not good enough but we will use cywka for the rest of the season. Would love to see how long your crying out for him to play week in week out
Cywka will always score goals for us. But mainly from coming off the bench. Very very disappointing whenever selected to start
Please refer to Jay's post about Paddy. Tompole is a great player to come on when the opposition have all got vertigo after chasing shadows for 65 minutes. Having said that, I'd have loved him to have been on when we got that cluster of free kicks just outside the box.
Who says Jennings isn't good enough? Hardly seen him yet. I suspect he is good enough. And we have OBrien and RNL. I would choose either of those out wide ahead of Mellis. I'm not saying cwyka should be used all season without substitution... I'm saying he's done more than enough this season to justify a starting position.
ok that's fair enough. Cywka hasn't had a run of games to be able to judge him but I honestly can't remember him playing well when he has started a game. Yes I would rather have rnl on the wing ahead of Mellis. But o'brien.. 100% no!
Mellis had a good game I thought provided a constant outlet. RNL offers him viable competition JOB nmassive step backwards and yes Tompole is a much better sub very anonymous when he starts.
Suppose that's problem with a big squad, keeping everybody happy , and all fans have there favourite players , and players that they think should be in team too
He's only started two games this season, hasn't he? Despite that he's scored two cracking goals and been unlucky not to score more. He's two-footed, gets crosses in and can beat a man. After tonight if he's not picked ahead of Jennings, O'Brien and Mellis on Saturday he's entitled to think the dice are loaded.
I think I agree with the majority. Cywka seems to be an impact player, who influences the game when he comes off of the bench. To be fair he's something we've lacked for a while, I don't remember the last time we had a substitute who could turn the game like he does sometimes. But how many goals has he scored for us when he's started the game? I don't think its many. I do however agree with your sentiments over Mellis, if we insist on playing him out of position, he's wasted. I would much rather we gave Jennings a fair crack or even Noble Lazarus.
A lot is made of Mellis being played out of position, but last night he showed that he can perform in that position if he wants to. IMO he had a decent first half, but was anonymous in the second. Sorry, but I cannot enthuse about players that have got it and don't use it. McCourt on the other hand was begging for the ball at every opportunity so much so that his legs had gone towards the end and he ought to have been subbed. Its all about attitude and Mellis needs to change his but I doubt he will.
If we're going to pick two attacking/flair players to start like last night, maybe it should be either McCourt or Mellis and Cywka or Reuben or Jennings
Mellis is a good player if he sets his mind to it, but he blows hot and cold, he always shirks a tackle one on one. Cwyska also is inconsistent. It is a problem for a manager when you do not know which guy is turning up. He loses a sub when he has to replace them. A manager needs 110 percent.
