can't believe no-one mentioned him.

 

Oh yeah. My error. We loaned him out to Hibs didn't we. He's back with Keith now anyway.

 

I remember liking the look of Kane at that match which was a humdinger. Viveash is the only player I've ever seen who even headed the ball left handededly he was so one footed.

 

Let's not pretend that McCourt isn't from Dale too. His legend lives on like no other player at Spotland. When you compare some of the talent we've had in recent years, that Paddy is held in such high regard despite playing far less and in teams that were not our greatest, it's an indication what a unique talent he has.

Genuinely believe there are few players in world football who can go past a man with such ease so that you're not sure how he did it. Top of my head, the only two in living memory are Gascoigne and Messi.

You nearly had me believing that you think McCourt is the 3rd best player you have seen ! I know you have had some superb players at Rochdale ;-) , but fecking hell mate !

Or, if you read it, I was referring to one specific skill.

 

He's good at that, there's no question about it, but I think you're over egging it some what. At the moment we're comparing him to Hignett as he was the last player we had who could do that. No one is yet saying that McCourt is better than Hignett, but at least he's getting the comparisons. I've also heard the mighty Ronnie Glavin's named mentioned, so McCourt must have some class if he's being talked about as having skills that resemble Galvin. But again, he's being compared to him, no one is saying he's better. I'd also throw David Currie and Martin Bullock's name in to the mix if we're simply talking about the ability to beat a man.

I've been watching since the late 1970s and I can only think of four ex-Barnsley players who had that type of skill, so McCourt must be summat like. But at the moment, I'd put all four ahead of him. I'd put Glavin, Hignett and to a certain extent Currie way ahead of him as those mazy runs often ended in goals, something that can't really be said of McCourt wherever he's played. But that's just four players at Barnsley. A pretty mediocre club spending most of that time at the second level of English football. I can't imagine for a minute that we've had the monopoly on skilful players in that time. I would imagine every supporter of every club could name at least four ex or current players that can ghost around the opposition as well as McCourt.

He's got some great skills has McCourt, but he's not that bloody good.

 

Think it shows up what we've got used to watching if we think McCourt's on the Glavin and Hignett plane.

He seems sublime with the ball at his feet though, just hope he doesn't get kicked to death by the robo-defenders most teams have.

 

He's miles off yet, but it's great to have a player who can beat a man. Have we seen some ******* rubbish this last 12 years. Jesus.

 

Alex Neil - who did John Dennis say he was going to emulate ? Paul Ince or somebody ? kin ell.

 

Think it was Tinkler that got the Ince comparisons. Shirley.

Although there was plenty of fanfare about Neil as well as I recall. Completely unwarranted.

Even the classier of the bunch have never really kicked on at a higher level since leaving us. Thinking of Anderson De Silva, Vaz Te, Butterfield etc. We've become far too accustomed to mediocrity. Oh for a midfield of Redfearn, Bosancic and Marcelle (with Shez coming on to poke eyes nibble feet)

Excited about Paddy. Not just about his ability (I suspect consistency might be an issue) But simply due to the fact that he's a centre midfielder (had this debate with me fatha, don't think he's a winger) who likes to beat players rather than keep possession and play the easy ball. They don't mek em like that anymore and other clichés.

 

What I like is that he plays like he doesn't give a **** - until he scythes someone down in retribution for an earlier challenge.

We've got a 'character' at long last.

Can't see him doing a 46 game season but he's a match winner imho.

 

If he continues to be a regular, I guarantee that "gu on Paddy" will rival "for fcuks tarn" as my most popular saying at a match this season.
Or "gu on Patrick" if it's a Sunday game.
