I sit in East Stand Lower Tier and have done since it was built.....love it. Sit there with my Daughter, Dad, brother, nephew and a load of mates.....again, have done for many years and love it. Problem is that we are sat behind 3 blokes (of varying ages) who absolutely FECKIN STINK. On Tues versus Reading, we had to move seats, as the smell was too much; this seems unreal when you can actually stink someone in an open air stadium......these boys humm like hell. Personally speaking, I find it very difficult to say to someone "hey lads, you stink, get a bath", but it is getting to the point where I may have to be blunt and risk an argument/scrap....simply for the benefit and future ease of my nasal passages. Any advice would be appreciated and considered.
I have a similar ( not quite as bad) problem. Next to us is a huge group blokes with kids/ Grandkids etc. We have three seats in a row. But more often than not, they have more people in their party than there are seats where they want to be. End result is two or three kids/ teenagers cramming into the seats next to mine. One time I seemed to be sharing my seat with a 16 year old girl whose only interest was the mid first half pie. I like some of the kids who sit near us. One lad in particular is really knowledgable and I sometimes chat to him. But I'm not happy sharing my seat with kids, when there are plenty of other seats around.
I'd mention that to the club with the seat number so that they can keep a look out for it and send a steward up to have a word with them (health and safety and all that) without it even looking like you've said a word. Problem gets solved and you don't look like the bad guy (or girl)
Fired.....in a way it's a similar problem ie. people invading your personal space, when here is no need for it. My situation is that these guys are not invading my space, as such, they simply stink like orang-u-tans.
I like the idea of being honest:- Look lads, you really do feckin stink. Why not try having a hot bath, use some soap, get dried and then apply deodorant. Do it daily, you'll be amazed with the results. It don't cost a lot and won't hurt you. If you don't, then please go and sit in the West Stand Bogs, you will blend in quite nicely.
Buy some soap and a can of deodorant. Arrive at game early. Place earlier purchased items under culprits seats. Await their arrival. Deny all knowledge.
Last season we were sat behind the smelliest man in the world at the Charlton away game. He was so smelly my son was nearly sick but fortunately he moved after about twenty minutes so our dinner stayed where it was. I was on the verge of saying something after just twenty minutes so I think you can justify saying something to them.
Mario, I respect your posts on here. So if you say it's OK to say something, then I'm going with that. I'll be firm but fair. If you see any disturbance East Stand Lower Tier gangway 6 ....... that's either us, or a **** linesman?
I really like that suggestion - a cheap can of deodorant left on their seats with a message that says "this is a big hint to you all".
If I were you I'd just move your seats, it's not worth the aggro...if someone doesn't know they hum,I'd be very surprised if even the most tactful suggestions will get you anywhere..and at the end end of the day, unpleasant though it is,theres no law against it.The other alternative of course is to tell em straight..both barrels..and make sure cudethade is there to back you up.
Thanks mate I feel very humble now, I can't remember the last time anybody took any notice of me. If I see a disturbance I'll be straight down with Ponty72 to help. Somebody will need to hold your coats.
Really overcrowded back few rows of Ponty between gangways one and two. 2/3 very young lads to a seat. Stewards need to sort it as when we score gets dangerous
tbh if I was you mate I would just move, it's annoying but if they niff that bad they either know and ignore it/don't give a rats or won't acknowledge it. Remember footies inly 90 minutes once a fortnight and they will be annoying a lot of people in between those times so my suspicion is they know it but just don't care so having told them it's going to be more than a bit awkward!
Connor....that was one of the reasons why I posted. Kind of "light" way of getting them to notice, if they use BBS. Let's see......
