Since we scored three or more goals. Wow. And if we lose to Boro it will be our worst start to a season, ever. Wow. Stats courtesy of the Chron. . You record breaking Reds.
In my 26 years watching us, other than three, possibly four full seasons at this level or higher, no. We have been average to dogshit for most of the other 20 or so years. And I'm used to it. But wow. Considering Flicker's miracle of keeping us up, he's racking up some of the worst records possible. Highest home defeat. Highest home opening day league defeat. Highest home cup defeat. And possibly the worst start to a season ever. And, the majority - me included - still want him. Pick Bobby, for fcuks sake, Dave.
It's the worst start while I've been watching them, although it doesn't feel like the worst, if u know what I mean?
Don't believe everything you read in the Papers The people who write those things make them up. Tee Hee If you include Cup games its 39 home fixtures games since scoring 3 or more.
I'm going to have to question the claim that we've only had three or four good seasons in 26 years. Following positions are for the Championship or division 2 if you prefer, which I do. 1988-89 Final league position 7th - Two points outside the play-offs. 1990-91 Final league position 8th - Missed out on the play-offs on goal difference. The infamous 'we're in the play-offs' announcement over the Tannoy after beating Middlesbrough, only for Brighton to score in injury time. 1994-95 Final league position 6th - Any other year we would have been in the play-offs, but missed out as the Premier League were reducing the number of teams, so only two went up. 1996-97 Final league position 2nd - Promoted! The best team in the world ever. 1997-98 Final league position 19th Premier League - OK, we were relegated, but we definitely weren't average to dog ****. Yes we got some hammerings, but we also played some of the best football our club has ever produced. We beat 11 different Premier League teams that seasons, a couple of them twice. That included victories over Liverpool, Man Utd and Tottenham plus our old mates Sheffield Wednesday. 1999-2000 Final League position 4th - Play Offs and a trip to Wembley. In the first dozen years or so you were watching Barnsley you saw us challenging for promotion or in the Premier League half the time. I'm not sure exactly which year you started watching, but we also finished 11th in 86/87, 14th in 87/88, 16th in 91-92, 13th in 92-93, 10th in 95/96, 13th in 98/99 and 16th in 2000/01. That's another seven years we finished in the middle third of the division. Isn't that exactly the type of mid-table obscurity we all claim we'd be happy with? From the 1981-82 season to 2000-01 we finished in the bottom third of the division just twice - 89/90 when we finished 19th and 93/94 when we finished 18th. We were a good division two club. Since then we've been ****, but the first half of the period you've been watching us we certainly weren't.
Spot on Jay, l always remark back that our last period in the Championship we were a decent Championship team, sometimes pushing for promotion and sometimes battling relegation, we also had some good cup runs, Oldham, Man City, Everton... I wouldn't say we had constant **** seasons.
correct jay. we went downhill after we sacked dave basset, which at the time,in my opinion was barmy.I made my feelings clear to john dennis at the time and said it had set us back years, middle of the table on the back of a play off final saw him sacked, followed by a merry go round of managers that havnt really been up to the job..
We should never have given him the job or should have sacked him after Wembley. He was not interested in the second season.
Yes, a bit of an exaggeration, Jay. I was thinking of 94-95, 96-97, 97-98, 99-00. But you're right about the others. Although I do tend to forget much of my formative years of tarn watching. Was busy conkering and making dens.
Do I not? Oh. Ok. I must have imagined the myriad posts where I have stated as much. And also forgot the myriad posts where I call for his head. Suppose that my criticism counts as wanting shut, eh? Oh well. Flicker out it is then. For fcuks sake.
We could possibly even break both records on the same day and lose 3-5 or similar. Whats the odds on that?
I'd be seriously worried if we don't get anything from the Boro game. They're one of the teams we need to be turning over at home. The same would go for Wednesday but local derbies are a different kettle of fish all together. Realistically, if we get less than 10 points from the next 6 games, I think we may need to make changes. These are 6 very winnable games coming up, (maybe with Ipswich away being the exception), I certainly wouldn't expect us to lose any of the home games, and we should be giving Millwall a good go at least.
Agree with that. Hope he can turn things around. Key players need to stay fit & perform well & need a settled defence.
Don't get me wrong, I'm not meaning to have a go (though I can see how my post might have come across as a bit ar5ey). It's just the posts I've seen suggest it's a bit of "I want him to stay BUT...(and then more complaints than you would expect from someone who wants him at the club)" and that this might be being used as a way to have a go without being dismissed as a "Flicker Out" merchant. Maybe it's because people react overzealously to criticism of Flicker in the first place. Or maybe it's not. Or maybe I'm talking *****. Anyway, long and short of it is I wasn't having a go, it's just how it sometimes looks to me, one strange bloke, bored at work.
