This is froze when the pigs player knocks the ball on, the linesman should be looking down the line and unable to see from his angle that it was going to fall to Fryatt so his flag should have been up as soon as the player knocked it on.
That picture proves a few things. That we definitely play offside this season, and it's not working. That Nuhiu is offside and like you say, the lino can't assume he's not 'involved'. That M'Voto is not in tune with the other defenders. That TK is too slow. And you have Sky Plus.
It would appear that the linesman is inline with the Wednesday forward and right up with play, so it patently obvious why he did not flag for offside. I'll spell it out to you. Total incompetence.
If you give offside for that then a game would be non-stop free kicks...obviously if the ball finds Nuhiu then you'd hope the flag would go up. This active/inactive argument is a funny one though because his offside position would surely have an effect on the positioning of the players, keeping an eye on him despite the fact that even if he gets the ball he should really be flagged offside - you see it all the time though and it's a bit of a flaw in the offside rule that can be used to your advantage.
Toss, finished at 12:15..... In Manchester. Had to listen to them prized *****s commentating on the game, Shirtlifter and Walker, no bias whatsoever.
But the player in the offside position did not receive the ball, therefore the linesman got it right.
But he can't 'know' that it's not going to Nuhiu, can he? Nuhiu even makes a dash for the ball before realising Fryatt is in. And our players are clearly trying (albeit badly) to play Nuhiu offside. The rule is ****** up. Offside should be offside as it was when I was a lad.
If they put a really tall player in front of the linesman to block his view, would he be offside? Think we need to inherit this tactic.
I know he is, but at the time of the knock on the linesman didn't know that the ball would end up with Fryatt so he should have flagged seeing a Weds player in an offside position. Or do all linesmen now wait 10 seconds to see who the balls going to be knocked onto?
Luckily? At the time of that shot he's unaware where the balls going to land so should he not be flagging offside? A weds player is clearly well offside.
Exactly. On Friday, we could have the same situation in Ipswich, but with COG offside, and then Pedersen running from deep to smash home, and the lino would wave for COG being offside. It's that stupid.
Spot on, again. It's not like Nuhiu was walking out of the box and blatantly not 'active'. He even makes an attempt to go for the ball. He's offside.
Whether the rule is fecked up or not is irrelevant, you don't like the rule then that's fine, however under the current rule it was not offside so the linesman was correct,
No he shouldn't, thats why now you get so many "late flags" because they wait until it goes to the man. Is the rule stupid? Perhaps. But under the rule the linesman was right.
