Only just got round to catching up with the vid clips. Speaks well of Barnsley, and talks some sense about where we're at. Check it out, if you haven't already.
The bit that I found interesting was when Beagrie mentioned our Budget, in the bottom 4 in the league. Whos the other 3?..Yeovil, Donny, and Bournemouth id guess. So if we finish above 4 bottom, we've over achieved again...Fans on here that moan, owt to realise the reality of this league as it is in 2013. And its no good saying we deserve to be in this league cos history dictates. It means sweet fanny anne whats gone in the past..It so so different nowadays The way its going to be again this season is a struggle...But our other option is the ale house league.
Our squad size and amount of loanees suggests our budget is big enough to compete. Keith Hill could use that excuse. Flicker cannot.
More players on less cash? Not saying that is what we should be doing but I don't think anyone can say the budget has increased until we see the accounts
We shed the low wages of Foster, Alnwick, Harewood. Retained the likes of Cranie (he'll have got more money), Hassell and Steele (reduced terms). Signed a player for 300k from Wednesday who was rumoured to be on 6k a week there. Can't see him taking a wage cut. Signed a player from Munich for 250k. I'm told he's on serious money. Wouldn't surprise me. He had other offers remember. We've recruited a lot of high profile loans (Butland, Ramage and Pedersen). Not sure how much we're paying out in wages, but there'll be money involved. Mansford has admitted already that we've spent a lot more than usual on agents fees. I'd suggest our budget is bigger this season. Love to be wrong, though. Not sure we'll ever know, until either the club or manager start using it as an excuse for a sacking, or a non sacking, if you get my drift. "We've backed Flitcroft to the hilt, given him a bigger budget and he's not turning it around so he's had to go..." "We're sticking with him, because we've invested heavily in him and his ideas, and can't afford to pay him and the players off as well as recruiting a new boss/players etc.."
I think your right Whitey. The budgets gone up quite obviously for first team budget but also for the money spent of Match day experience.
Cheers for that, hadn't even thought to look on Player seeing as everything seems to be on YouTube these days!
Aye, that's my thinking. But then, it's based on guesswork. I'm not saying we're big spenders or owt. Just that I'm not having this "we've got no money" ******** used as an excuse. Again. Just wish they'd backed Keith and Robins like they seemingly are doing with Flicker.
I agree we are spending a lot more on and off the pitch..but in comparison to the rest of the championship, we have a bottom 4 budget.
Because Beagrie is privy to the financial comings and goings at Barnsley FC. Wonder where Burnley's ranks in the division?
Burnley have a top 6 budget though? And what about Southampton in the Prem? Top 4 budget? The whole budget thing was done to death under Keith. Flicker - to his huge credit - has never mentioned it. I'm not accepting it this season as an excuse.
Good point, I'd guess they still have a bit banked from the Premier League, but that's surely got to be running out. In terms of income they can't be doing any better than us and I dare say we would be getting better crowds than them if we were in the same position as them in the league. As a club we have to look to the likes of them and Blackpool as to what can be achieved by the "smaller" clubs in the division.
Palace spent £10m on wages last season and their chairman said that they were only in the mid range of championship wages. I wonder what ours will be this season ?
You can stick your head in the sand as much as you want..KH did do it to death, but Ive not seen any where its been used as an excuse... in fact I though Beagrie meant it as a bit of a complement to Ben and the club with what we achieve in this financial market.
