He may feel too much pressure and too self conscious answering questions post match and in front of the national media.
I see what you mean, possibly scared of saying the wrong thing in the heat of the moment. To be fair it hasn't done him any harm so far in terms of results - his translator must surely be thinking his days are numbered though!
I'm sure I read a story about an interpreter taking the pi55 and not quite translating the questions and answers properly. Like you say his English isn't too bad so not sure his translator would get away with doing similar.
It's funny sometimes on match of the day - Pochettino will say (what I would guess is) about 30 words in Spanish and the translator will only say about five words...and sometimes the complete opposite.
