http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-2480838/BBC-star-arrested-Savile-sex-abuse-probe.html I'm just speculating, but a well-known 64-year old star of tv and radio has been arrested as part of the ongoing Savile investigations. I wonder......... I just looked him up - Edmonds is 64.
From that article though, it sounds like its a current BBC TV and Radio Star. I dont think Edmonds no longer works for the BBC.
Can we just wait before branding someone a paedophile based on their age and where they work. If it is him and he is charged we'll all know soon enough. I know you're not a malicious person and I'm not suggesting as such, but we live in a world where paediatricians are attacked by baying mobs. I think we've all got to act responsibly. I don't like Noel Edmonds, I think he's an arse, but no one deserves to be accused of this if they're innocent. **** like this sticks forever and ruins lives. As for The Mail reporting that it's 'chilling' not to release the names of people who have yet to be even charged, well, I don't even know where to start with that. Let's condemn the guilty, by all means, but I don't think this sort of speculation does anyone any good, even if it's only a small internet forum and even if everyone else is doing it.
Agree with all of that Jay. Apart from I do like Noel as I used to love Noel's House Party when I was a kid.
That bit on Deal Or No Deal where he brings the sick kids out to meet their musical heroes chokes me up everytime.
Pretty much what Jay said and as for the" its Chilling " bit I couldnt disagree more with Ms Chakrabarti, lets at least wait until there is enough evidence to warrant bringing a prosecution before naming names - these days its far worse to be wrongly accused of child abuse than murder as a sizeable group of people have the view that no one would make up claims of abuse even though that is demonstrably false for example Dave Jone s has never been able to shake off the stigma of being falsely accused - even last weekend we had morons having a go at even though the case against him was proved to be completely fabricated an attempt to gain compensation. Its easy to imagine others having a go especially in the current climate
The Daily Mail, admittedly a paper that dresses up opinion as fact, does say that the man arrested works for the BBC on TV and the radio so those naming Noel Edmonds are a long way wide of the mark and as Sally Bercow found to her cost making allegations in a public forum, in her case Twitter, can be expensive.
My money's on Edmonds. I don't trust anyone that still looks like that at 64. He's got like, some kind of evil eternal youth, like Monty Burns.
The article says the person still works at the BBC. Edmonds I don't think has worked there for years. It also says the name of an innocent man of that age was all over the internet yesterday and i'd imagine most would jump to the conclusion it's Noel, so it's probably not him.
Can't remember seeing him on ITV. Usually Channel 4 for Deal or No Deal. Or even Sky 1 for How You Smarter Than A 10 Year Old or Noels Christmas Presents.
Should have put Channel 4 - I thought Deal or No Deal was on ITV - but was wrong - I dont watch it so didnt really know
To be fair, I thought I was asking a question, and used the word "speculating" because he was the only person I could think of from that era who fitted the bill who is 64. I guess I was wondering who else it might be, hence the question. I really hope it is NOT him - his programmes on telly formed a major part of my childhood, namely Swap Shop and Saturday Superstore (much more so than Jimmy Savile). Whether it proves to be him or not, I'm sure he's been preparing for this kind of speculation for months - "guilt by association" and all that. He will have his lawyers primed already, I'm sure. Anyway, we will find out soon enough who it is who has been arrested - not convicted. Apologies for adding to the speculation on a footie forum - sometimes living in a different time zone we get the UK's next day headlines while you lot are sleeping and I assumed if I didn't mention it, then someone else would. So, back to footie - which is why we are all here - Come on You Reds. Let's get a point today - at least.
I can imagine it's strange for people from a certain era to see those they grew up enjoying being arrested on such serious charges. I'd feel the same if anything ever happened to the likes of Neil Buchanan, Dave Benson Phillips, Chucke Brothers and Pat Sharp.
