Surely these type of signings are designed to do one of the following
(a) low wages and worth a squad place if/when required
(b) use them in the U21/ development
(c) take a punt in case we drop on a diamond and flog em for a healthy profit

 

I bow to your superior knowledge of the game, must be all them hours spent on Football Manager in your tracksuit jumping up and down shouting at the screen to your make believe players!!

You watch alot of our Under 21s so i've a question for you Hemsy. How come no guy Flicker/Hill have ever signed between them to be put into the developmental squad (Cofie, Silva, Jones etc) ever make it in our first team? I would love to see us sign someone, pop him in the developmental to...develop, get a first team chance and nail down a regular starting place. But will this ever happen?

 

It takes longer than a season.
There putting in a system for the long term.
It took the academy maybe 5 years to get to today and could take the u21s the same time .
Remember the ages of these players.

 

Jones will be 22 in January and Cofie will be 21. These are not academy aged players.

 

He played 3 games coming on as a first half sub in one of his 2 league games and sent off in the other but did manage a full 90 in JP Trophy.

 

To be fair to the lad, he played the full 90 minutes at Forest last year when we were under pressure for almost the entire game, but came away with a clean sheet. Admittedly, Steele had a stormer, but he must have been doing summat right in that game. He may not go on to be the greatest player in the world, but the couple of times he was called upon for us, when we were down to the bare bones, he didn't let us down. Pressure matches too, when the threat of relegation was looming over the club, and for young lad with no experience at this level he did very well.

we are second bottom , and have been in the bottom 3 almost all season so far.
