For Saturday's game against Doncaster Rovers, seeing as it's Remembrance Weekend? The event appears to have gained greater significance with recent conflicts in Iraq & Afghanistan. The attendance at the service in Dodworth has grown quite considerably these past few years. Personally, I'll be sparing a thought for Bob Gray, oldtimer1928, a well respected Barnsley fan, BBS poster & Korean veteran who passed away earlier this year.

I would be amazed if we don't observe a minutes silence and I echo your comments about oldtimer

I should think so...the minutes applause we did with Doncaster at Oakwell two years ago was well observed:

My friend just received an email from the Canadian embassy in Seoul, who are sending out a box of poppies to him to give to teachers here. I'm collecting mine tomorrow.

I can’t see any reason why they wouldn’t and I would be extremely disappointed if we didn’t.

    The only reason I asked

Was that there were a few clubs who didn't observe it this weekend, when it was their nearest home game to Remembrance Sunday. I believe it will be observed at Oakwell this coming Saturday.

    I really hope so.

Always wear my poppy with pride and respect for the people that fought and died for our country.

I didn't know that Kev, I think thats really bad practise. I really hope we don't follow that particular trend.

Me too, mate. Although to be fair, those clubs may have mid week games this week or next, or could be at home again at the weekend.

I am hopeful that the Management team of BFC read this board and agree, a minutes silence is imperative.

Didn't we once have soldiers absailing down form the East Stand roof? So surely a minutes silence should be easy enough to arrange.

Yes, they did that last year prior to the minute's silence.

Why shouldn't there be minutes silence throughout the country? After all if it hadn't been for those brave souls who gave the ultimate sacrifice, perhaps none of us would have the privilege to stand at football matches today.

BTW I've got my poppy already.

Why not just actually buy a normal one? Given these are going on ebay with no evidence that the proceeds are going to the British Legion.

Suppose I'm just trying to make a statement peacefully. Donations in the collection tin.

Fair do. The missus stopped at the poppy table in Morrison's to get one, as I continues to put the shopping in the car. When she got back she said she'd bought one of the small enamal badge ones because she lost her normal one last week, and she said she'd just put a donation in each year.

It goes against what the poppy is about.

Millions of people died for a stupid futile reason, one that would have been better solved by words.

The poppy is about peace, maybe others have been burning poppies, but it is better to talk than be provocative.
