Simple fact is folk were always going to get wound up by the pubs they chose. Understand the Courthouse argument but there's also a valid one for the Number 7 - business relationship, club beer etc etc. Plus it's a quieter and nicer pub than The Courthouse without thrash metal being played on the jukebox.
Since when was this "Reds on Tour" a private event? The bbs meeting is a private event, but to me the reds on tour is not.
I see where you're coming from. I don't expect the club would have done this if they thought they were going to snub a supporters group. It's difficult though as other pubs will also have their groups of Barnsley fans including Old No 7 and realistically the club can't get to all.
They may not be organising any coaches, but it doesn't mean it's not a Barnsley supporters pub and it doesn't mean the people who drink there aren't going to away matches. I drink there and I've been watching us 35 years (if we're having a best supporters-off). When I meet mates before or after a match we meet in the No 7. Not people off here, proper people. Every time Barnsley are at home the place is stuffed with Barnsley fans who are going or who have been to the game. And to top it all off, it's run by a Barnsley brewery selling Barnsley beer. I think the club should go to the Courthouse on this tour thing, for all the reasons you've set out above, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't go to the No 7, because it is a Barnsley fan's pub and those of us who fill it are just as passionate about the club as those in the Courthouse. I'm not saying No 7 is better than the Courthouse, that's a matter of taste, I'm not saying we're better supporters, we're not, but we're equal.
I think it's probably because the few people who go in make a big song and dance about it. Been in it once, dark and dingy place Gally. Not somewhere the club should be going.
as a neutral onlooker, this is one the most juvenile threads i've read. listen yourselves. our pub's bigger than your pub. everybody else thinks your pub is poo. your beer is rubbish. pick me, pick me. Club's trying to do something positive, and you're squabbling like kids over which pub it should be in. **** me.
I think you all need to get a grip to be honest. I’d love to go to one of these meetings that are held, but can’t due to my current location, which is the same for many BBSers. You have a fantastic chance to interact with the club, but you’d rather moan because it’s not in your favourite pub? Be grateful for the opportunity and get yourselves along. We’re all BFC, regardless of which pub we frequent, aren’t we?
Is that to me? I'm assuming so as it's under my post. Just to recap: "I'm not saying No 7 is better than the Courthouse, that's a matter of taste, I'm not saying we're better supporters, we're not, but we're equal." My whole point is that no pub is better, so there's no point in arguing it should be this one and not that one, while slagging off other pubs in the process. The pub I like was getting a bit of a kicking so I though I'd stick up for it. I don't think BFC should pick the No 7 over any other, I don't care where the tour goes, but the No 7 is as good as any and there's no reason why it shouldn't be there.
LOL. I believe there may be a couple of extra nights in the pipeline that may include Courthouse and Penistone.
I actually agree with some of the things you say, yes there are many pubs that folk attend pre game and afterwards, the mount for example hasn't been mentioned. but the fact remains the courthouse has the biggest following, so something should be done to interact with the fan base who frequent that pub.
Tha'll be struggling in Penistone, Gally. We hardly have any pubs left these days mate. Most of which are inhabited by Wednesday and glory seeking Man U fans.
Is that really a fact though? Just because there isn't an "Old No 7 supports club" doesn't mean their regulars don't go to "x" amount of games in their numbers.
I would say so yes, some of the folk who organise the courthouse buses should be asked to be involved with the supporters trust
