Instead of doing the strong holds of Barnsley.............the Barnsley players and Chief Exec need to be visiting pubs in Thurnscoe, Goldthorpe, Bolton (all in the Barnsley district) and then Wath, Mexboro, Thorpe Hesley, Chapletown, High Green, Stocksbridge, Penistone, Denby Dale, Fitzwilliam, Hemsworth, South Elmsall, South Kirkby

.................huge population in these towns on the fringes of the Barnsley district........and many of those living in the surrounding towns see Barnsley as their local town

After visiting those towns they need to start looking at WAKEFIELD town centre..........a city without a football club

But it's about going out and getting ideas from fans, not about "spreading the word"

While I thikn you are right about somehow targeting these areas I can't see the point of them setting up a Q&A in an empty pub.

Gally... Have you thought about asking Ben if he wants to do a q&a on here?

The reality of it is that this board probably attracts as many people living outside Barnsley as in it. It has a big attraction to "out of towners" because its their only opportunity to talk to fellow reds from one week to the next. It therefore doesn't matter how many pubs in Barnsley he goes to, there is a big swaithe of BBS'ers who he will never reach.

I'm sure most folks would be sensible with it. Just a thought.

I had wondered about doing a live youtube event where people could post questions on here or live via skype or google hangouts. Havent got any further than thinking about it. (Other than I'm doing something similar for another project so could do the technology side of it)

If they get the publicity right there wont be empty pubs.........but there is obviously the chance that they will attract the wrong element no matter where they go in and around Barnsley and the surrounding area.......as a club we are very much hated in certain areas...........hence the comment about security

sheffielders for one.......think we are some sort of remnant from the Viking era

Or... You could simply get Ben to join as a member, then you announce he is coming on the board for a set time on a set date and he will answer whichever questions are thrown at him during that time, (that he sees fit to answer) and ignore the ones he doesn't.

Nice and easy for everyone and I can't see that he has anything to lose doing it that way.

In theory, webchats could be a good idea. We need to seriously think about the technology though, where Ben and this forum are concerned. Exposing him to some of the mongs on here, could do more harm than good.

It would need a host/admin, screening the questions before he saw them. I would also hand out immediate bans on people behaving like kn0bheads.

Might as well just do a Twitter Q&A with the hashtag #AskBenM

You'll hit a lot more people than you would on the BBS

We used to get quite a few from the outlying areas, not so sure now Nudge, so it would be worth a try to set up an evening with players and fans in some of those areas if you grouped em together a bit especially the Bolton, Goldthorpe, Thurnscoe as one area, Hemsworth, Elmsall and Kirby another and Penistone and its surrounding communities. Maybe the club could forge some links with Wakefield Trinity with both offering discounted tickets etc.

These could be done along with the others already arranged and not instead of.

Is there anyone on here that comes from these areas Nudge mentions?

Good idea re. Wakefield Trinity, but I wonder how many rugby fans also like (& would watch) football?

Most rugby people I know, don't follow football.......but I may have a strange circle of associates!!!!!

So you think 'hiring' Barnsley's 'firm' as Security would be a good idea to fight off any Barnsley FC haters who might turn up and cause trouble? I'd love to spend 5 mins inside your head. Will be lucky to get Barnsley fans turning up for these sessions, never mind fans (or firms) from other clubs. Jesus

Not sure mate, but if you like a sport, be it rugby or football, you do tend to like others sports as well and may go and give it a go if the price is right, it were just a thought on getting a link into Wakefield area not so sure if we still pull punters in from that neck of the woods.

There are Tarn fans that follow Wakey that I do know.
