Someone pointed out Hicksy, myself and Loko out to Simon Davey and co at one player of the year dinner. Probably along the lines of "It's them ****s that run that BBS". One of his assistants, forgot his name now but the aggresive one, came over and started talking to us in a very irate manner. Seemed most upset and seemed to want to prove what a fine job they were doing and how well they'd done at developing Jamal Campbell Rice (by playing him at full back)

Bit daft in its self but assuming we are responsible for what any one types on here is even worse. Most of the time its no different to what gets said in the pubs and clubs around Barnsley which will make these reds on tour evenings interesting.

It's cos it's in print - it seems to carry more weight. Slander etc notwithstanding you're bang on - sit in The Groggers for an hour Saturday lunchtime if you want to hear much stronger opinions than anything put on here.

My dislike of him had nowt to do with us not getting into the Champion's League.

Besides, you're incorrect anyway as I was firmly behind Mark Robins.

Until the internet came along, managers, and chairmen in particular, believed that all the fans thought they were great. They never heard anything that fans said, because they never mixed with them. If they did, they never heard them speaking candidly. They might have attended a supporters club meeting once a year, but you just get polite questions there. They were in a bubble and they had no idea what football fans thought, unless they were doing utterly ***** and they got some abuse during the games.

Then we got internet forums and they couldn't believe what they were reading. It was nowt different to what has always been said in pubs and clubs up and down the country, but for the first time managers and chairmen were exposed to it. They got to read what we really thought without their presence modifying our behaviour. A few took it in their stride, but most were appalled. They thought it was just a few bad eggs, so they did what all daft rich folk do and started threatening to sue everybody. I doubt there is a football forum in this country that hasn't had a problem with this. Gradually this has stopped as they've come to realise we all think they're ******* useless and they can't sue everybody. Anyway, I think they're beginning to understand that thinking someone is rubbish and saying so is not defamation of character.

It was a big wake up call for a lot of people in football the internet. Some still hate it, but them with owt about them are actually using it to promote their clubs and taking the criticism on the chin. Barnsley FC have had a web-site for years, and the premium service, but it's only really been this season that they're really trying to get themselves noticed. I think the Youtube videos they've been doing are fantastic and it's all linked with Twitter and Facebook. We've joined the 21st century at last.

It's still not perfect. I'm led to believe some people are still getting upset with what fans are writing. But they're getting there. Slowly.
