    I know I'm in the minority but I don't think anyone deserves a knighthood for whipping horses

    I would have agreed with you in the old days when the whips were cruels. Welfare of horses is better though than it's ever been, although like with anything improvements can always be made. The whips these days are no more than a bit of foam. An half ton horse being hit with one by an 8 stone barely 5 foot man will barely be felt.
