A good friend of mine called Francesco sent me this email today. His wife, Mary-Lou, is from The Philippines. Please help if you can (and please share!)
    Hi All,
Of course you know about the typhoon that devastated the central Philippines last Friday.

Mary-Lou flew there last Sunday and is now at her village, Balite, which was right under the path of the typhoon.
The people are ok (almost all accounted for), but the village and the houses suffered major damages. Some, in fact, are no longer there.
As bad as that can sound, it is not the most urgent problem, which is instead the lack of food, which is running out very quickly.
The aid agencies have not arrived there yet (it's a small remote village), and will probably not get there for some time, as they are focussing on the main cities at the moment. People there have no money so they cannot travel to other cities or islands where they could try to get food from the agencies.
With the help of Mary-Lou and a cousin of hers, who lives in the main city of Cebu, I am organising a shipment of food from Cebu to the village. I am hoping to get it there by Friday (if it doesn't get looted along the way, which is one of the main difficulties!).
And here I come to the point. On my own, I can only go that far, so I thought I would send you this email to ask whether you could contribute a small donation toward this cause. If I can, I would like to organise an additional shipment of food to keep them going until (hopefully soon) the aids get there, at which point they will be all right. And my wife can come back home
VERY IMPORTANT: this would not be a donation to an official charity but to me directly! So you'd have to trust me...
So, should you choose to donate, my paypal details are:
    franzitaly1512@gmail.com
Please use the reference: "Balite" plus your name.
And, of course, feel free to forward this email
    Thanks!!!! I owe you!

Who the heck is going to vouch for you?

I've donated. Will be doing more to recognised charities too.

Now if only causes like this could raise as much passion as museums with stupid names or other such nonsense......well enough said.

Stuff'em, how many of them donated to the disaster fund when we were hit by our hurricane last week? Or how many of them donated to the 7/7 fund, about time this country stopped giving so much aid to every man and their dog, or on philleapeno land every man and his meal!!

To be honest, I'm struggling to understand why our Government are giving them money when they can't afford to keep some schools/hospitals open to look after their own people and their country's own future. Very sad what has happened over there, no doubt about it.

If people want to donate money then fair play to them, but isn't our country supposed to be skint?

Totally tragic what happened in the Philippines and if anyone so wishes to give aid in any way, good on them.

But yesterday I listened to some tit, from some govt office, on the radio trying to justify why the govt should give many thousands of pounds in aid.

FFS his govt has people here with no jobs, can't afford to heat their houses and in some cases reliant on food handouts to survive.

And the dopey c unt couldna see it. All he was interested in was the headlines of how good we were in helping the needy abroad.
