A link to a mix from a northern soul / sixties r&b gig I do every other friday night in Leeds… http://www.mixcloud.com/mark-hepworth/hourglass-8th-november-2013-northern-soul-sixties-rb/
Its a pub called the Hourglass on Lower Briggate in Leeds. Its Friday 8-30 till 1am. Not the best pub, a bit like a Wetherspoons, but music is well received & beer is very very cheap in there. I only do it when I haven't got any private work on (that pays proper money) - another guy who works for me does it the rest of the time. It is ska & rocksteady too, as well as soul. Some other venues I do indie & punk too, but this one is just 60's / early 70's black music.
don't think so tom, to be honest I know a lot of people from my old shop Soul Alley / Polar Bear - in Grand Arcade - many faces I know, but not always names I don't meet loads of other DJs really as the stuff I do is fairly self contained, as most of it is private work. Private stuff is the only real way to make a living at this game. I know a handful of guys from Leeds area who make a full time living out of bar / club DJing, but they are the exception.
Right. He's one of my mates at work. Has a northern soul/ska/reggae/rocksteady radio show, and does some sets in Hfx and Leeds. Apparently he's been invited to Bunny Lee's birthday party, whoever that is...if that means anything?
cool - Bunny Lee was a massive producer back in the day - a bit of a legend if you have any links to his show will deco check it out
