Following the death of the previous oldest person - who was the last living Briton born in the 19th Century the oldest person is now Ethel Lang from tarn http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-24940663
Just been on the news Saying she (Grace Jones) never married, as she met no man as decent as her fiancé who was killed during World War I.
Actually I did, sort of. I knew she was second oldest person in the UK as my kids were looking it up only last week - but I didn't know the previous oldest has now died. I will update them with this news when they return from school today (with apologies to Grace Jones and her family.) Good luck to Ethel. Keep on going.
Re: The next time I see you yes oldest person in UK lives in Barnsley and she has a daughter who is 90!!
Yep, good post, Farnham. Saw it earlier on BBC and you beat me to posting it on BBS. Good old Ethel; long may she live.
According to wiki she's also the 8th oldest person in the world currently. Good old Ethel, keep going. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oldest_people Also god bless Miss Jones.
Amazing to think she could have watched our FA Cup win in 1912! Well done Ethel. Anyone know which nursing home she's living in?
While I have the utmost respect for these people, I hope I am spared such a long life. Who wants to outlive all their friends, their siblings, their cousins, their nephews and nieces, their own children and even their grandchildren? Not I. My only real wish in life is that I die before any more of my friends and family who are younger than me go. And on that uplifting note, I'm going to have a sausage sandwich. No euphemism.
Very very strange this...........I recently posted about me knowing the owners of Pulse and Cocktail..........and now I'm posting that I've met Ethel a few times. The last time I saw her was about 10 years ago when she was 103 years old. She used to live at Churchfields.........at that time her eyesight was failing a bit but she was a very wick women and had all her buttons on. Great to hear she is still going strong
