I find some of the digs in ancient Rome and Egypt especially quite fascinating, but what are your thoughts on this? I'm particularly interested in hearing what our very own Dr Jones (a.k.a. Big Lil) has got to say.
Egypt yes, Rome no The Holy Land would be my favourite place to dig. After first beating off the Nazis & Communists! <img src ="http://img34.imageshack.us/img34/7268/indianaherring.png">
Re: Egypt yes, Rome no Interest in Archaeology over here is massive with plenty of tv programmes to watch, sadly one of the best 'Time Team' has just ended after a 20 year run,not everyones cup of tea,but to me an excellent programme that proves some of the most interesting digs can be the ones that may seem the least interesting, they don't have to be The Ancient World type of dig but sometimes relatively modern industrial sites...having said that I'd give my right arm to have a Roman villa buried in my back garden.
I love archaeology, mate Being on a dig is a tremendous thrill and exciting for me. However, I'm aware than a great deal of folk find it tedious & dull and, once I'm in full flow on the subject, I'm exceptionally boring. Talking of relatively modern sites, I was bitterly disappointed that a planned dig on a World War I battlefield we were delegated to do was cancelled & is one of the reasons I've switched universities. This was supposed to be a reply to sadbrewer. D'oh!
Re: I love archaeology, mate Me an Dek Parker used to go ont field at back of Wat Tyler and dig up some reyt glass bottles .
