I may have missed something but i only saw keiths name mentioned once in the whole thing, that slacking pal, on the plus side though, back to your best after that horrible rochdale thing last time out
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing Surely 3-5-2 could be used as a Plan B. We've got players who know how to play that system and have had success using it. I'd love to see McCourt in behind the strikers. He'd only need to go past one or two to get clear through on goal rather than four or five.
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing We've got the players for 352?????? really? I totally disagree with that. I really don't think that true at all. We've got a lot of attacking midfielders but defenders. We've got the players for 4231 IMO and the trouble Flitcrofts got is that we've got two strikers that are two of our better players. If that wasn't the case and we say didn't have Pedersen or O'Grady and had a second striker of say Scotland or Dagnall then I think we would play it now. i personally think hes got to bite the built and play that way. With the coaching staff we've got at the club the best we've done is under 4231 when we played it everyweek for 20 odd games.
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing Nice piece I reckon and a fair assessment based on what I've seen. Although I would say I think Perkins has never been a championship player despite his 100% effort. I've said many times that with the players we have we shouldn't be in the position we are in. The manager has been backed by the board and he's simply not producing...
David Perkins - apps 16, goals 0, assists 0. This is somehow acceptable for a central midfielder. Whitey - who did Fox get his assist against??
didn't he knock the ball back to pedersen after his shot hit the bar against wendy or did the ball hit the bar and go straight back to pedersen directly, cant quite remember tbh
Came out to Fox who played instinctive ball back to Pedersen who reacted quicker than any other striker on our books could and netted.
You're right. I'm reluctant to call that an assist though. It's like saying that Mellis should have an assist for Paddy's goal against Boro. Fox was probably aiming for Kennedy or Perkins.
You're right, that was fox's assist. Good to see hemsy is still educating us all on football. His 10yrs of experience really make you sit up and take notice. Doesn't it?
Good read that and most of it makes a lot of sense to me - cant say I agree with every word but the general gist of it is pretty much in line with my view Biggest disappointment for me is the lack of opportunity for Digby and RNL especially considering how well the latter played when he has had a chance ( same for Polish Tom)
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing I said we've got players who know how to play a 3-5-2. However, with the exception of a LWB we also have the players to fit into it. From the team that started against Donny, you could drop Wiseman to centre half, O'Brien to RWB, play McCourt behind the strikers and push Kennedy forward. Not ideal, but if we needed to switch it up during a game because 4-4-2 wasn't working I don't see a problem with it. Arguably our two best players are O'Grady and Pedersen, I think it would be pointless dropping one of them just to cater for 4-2-3-1, a formation we haven't played for ages. Mellis isn't even fit so we can't play him behind the strikers and moving McCourt into the centre would still leave the problem of who to play on the wings.
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing I would like to see Jennings in the 4231 bilvy. Think it would suit him the best. It suited caste and I think it would suit Jennings. I've seen all the different barnsley teams play 352 this season (18's 21's and first team) and it hasn't suited any of them. The u18's in the games they've played it didn't like picking up a point or goal under it. Also the u21's played it against brim for 20minute and didn't look any good. Changed the formation and won 4 1 and only lost to sheffield United in development games playing it since.
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing I'm sorryto say this to you Alf Garnett but I disagree Jennings lacks talent, fitness and the ability to stand up.
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing It suited us just fine last season. It not suiting the U21s or U18s has nothing to do with the first team.
Seriously? Be fair that was a proper assist. Ball pinged back at him, great first time ball to Pedersen
Re: Agree with the 3-5-2 thing Got to be honest, I struggled to decipher most of that. But I think you're saying summat about the youth teams, and them not doing well playing 3-5-2 therefore it won't work in the first team. Am I right? If so, I disagree. The u18's have got **** all to do with the first team. As for the 21's, it's a glorified reserves. And our own manager calls it pointless. I tend to look back at the occasions we've used 3-5-2, and two of our last three victories came when playing that formation. As did the six on the bounce or whatever it was last season. Once he changed it - towards the end of last term - we stopped winning games, and Hassell, Steele and Foster got us a few decent away draws. He then reverted to 3-5-2 for the Hull City match, Reuben bossed it (and Mellis) and we played them off the park. They were promoted btw, playing that system. In fact, we were promoted once playing that system. But you carry on cocker, trying to educate us all on football. It amuses me.
