It's -23C when you factor in the windchill. Every year we get -30C to + 30C! But it's not normally this cold in November. Takes a bit of getting used to, that's for sure.

    My two fears with snow.
1 - would definitely need to replace bald front left tyre before January MOT.
2 - which train trip to see Reds will be in doubt that I've paid for. Palace got played when was icy and fell on my arse. Millwall got postponed. Charlton train sorted for 16 of us

I have a coat and the ability/common sense to drive safely in snow and ice. I think I might just survive Narnia this year.

Don't worry mate, the weather hasn't beaten me yet. Those Pennines do get quite wild at times though.

I'm fine with snow. My car hates temperature below about -7. It tends to freeze the accelerator at wherever its at. So if you see me flying past you, or you drive past me in a field, then that's the likely cause lol

Can't see this winter being worse than Jeff.

I like snow but what you put up with would be too much for me. Wouldn't you prefer living somewhere warmer? Dunno what the heating prices are like there compared to here but your heating bill must be expensive. One of my favourite wrestlers Bret Hart was from Calgary and his autobiography mentions the winters there as a child when it would get to minus 40 and his parents would send out him and all his siblings to clear the snow.

No worries. I'll be keeping an eye on the forecasts. As soon as it looks like the temperature is likely to fall near the danger zone I'll pinch my mothers car until things get sorted. My mother won't go near her car if we have a gentle frost :)

My parents emigrated to Canada (in fact, I was born there), but they came back after only 4 years. One of the reasons my mam gave was that she didn't like the fact that the seasons are not very obvious in Canada - it went from sub zero to 25 degrees in about 3-4 weeks, with no proper spring season, or not a very long one at any rate. Is this a fair assessment CalgaryTyke?

That's certainly a fair assessment of Calgary, not the whole of Canada - they certainly have seasons in Vancouver, Halifax and Toronto - but that is like comparing Barnsley with Barcelona and Helsinki distance and weather-wise. This is one huge country as I'm sure you know.

Yes, we don't really have Spring or Autumn - but the summers certainly make up for the weather during the rest of the year - it barely rains here and we have bright blue sky for most of the year. None of that damp grey stuff you get in England. As for the change in weather, we actually had a barbeque a couple of weeks ago. I actually much prefer the weather here to the UK. Having said that, if I didn't like skiing, I probably wouldn't be quite so keen.

See above - it's cold, very cold for a few weeks a year, but we also benefit from "chinooks"; warm winds that blow through from the Rockies and warm everything up very quickly. I have known it go from -5C to +10C in 2 hours. As for the Hart family, I have heard their name quite often but don't know much about them. The temperatures you mention are certainly possible but we've not had that in the 13 years we've been here - most people say we don't get winters like they used to in the past. "Blimey", is all I can say!
