Well done David and Victoria for donating some of your old clothes to the Philippines.

I'm sure your old sarongs, Savile Row suits and Vicky's 6" stilettos will come in very handy.

Despite your sarcasm yes they will when they get sold for thousands of pounds to be put towards the appeal.

Yes my post was meant to be seen as sarcastic.

The Beckham's have countless millions between them and if the disaster which unfolded in the Philippines had touched them so much then they could have donated a couple of hundred thousand each anonymously. Even that amount would hardly put a small dent in their huge wealth, but no that wouldn't have got them the publicity they obviously crave.

    **** Them.

I think the couple are a credit to Britain, but then they do split opinion.

People like them have to be in the public eye, its good for the 'brand'. Like its been suggested already in this thread why not send some coin anonymously instead of getting good p.r.

How do you know how much the Beckhams give privately to charities? I don't but I guess it's a lot more than what they'll make from selling a few old clothes.
I reckon it's a good move to get other rich people who probably wouldn't otherwise give to fork out as well.
P.S. How much have you given? I don't give to charities cos they only bolster up the capitalist system (except for that £40 I promised - in case any of the golf lads read this!!)

Really? Well please take this opportunity to explain your reasons. To me they are just a couple of headline hugging, social climbing horrible individuals and do absolutely nothing to enhance Britain whatsoever. A bit like the Royal Family.

Again all this is done for the rest of the world to see what a great country Britain is. It's not nice what has happened but sometimes you have to look after your own first. This Govt obviously thinks different.
BL in the past I have chosen to disagree with you but this time I find myself in total agreement with you.

About time the masses who vote took note of this and vote the feckers out at the first opportunity.

As opposed to not helping them and the rest of the world seeing us as a set of cnuts. There is always a place for helping the victims of a disaster. Hospitals closing is a separate issue. Difficult choices to make but I support us helping in the Philippines.

Completely agree with you Ian and for you to agree with me must mean i have said something right for once haha

The situation in the philippines is truly terrible but why does this fall on Britain to help them out .

My partner currently works at Weston Park Hospital dealing with patients who are suffering/recovering from Cancer, they have been told today that 20 staff may be losing their jobs due to 2 wards closing down in the next 6 months

How can we justify helping others when this kind of stuff is going on in our own country

I support helping also but not at the expense of hospital ward closures here.
I'm tempted to say that people unable to afford to heat their homes and people having to use food kitchens to just to survive here is a disaster in its self.

As the old saying goes, Charity starts at home.

If true I don't mind being a bit of a lovely person by not helping out abroad and prefering to see our hospitals cope. Do you still choose to disagree Ponty72?

Ponty72 no problems there mate. We are all entitled to an opinion but my opinion is there is nothing fickle about British cancer victims being denied care and attention due to ward closures etc and yet our Govt chooses to send countless thousands to foreign lands instead.

I may be a little prejudice here as my son suffered from cancer 11 years ago and thankfully survived. God knows how I would have felt if the hospital and doctors had told me that because of lack of finance there was little they could do.

Hard choices as you said. Hope you are never in this position. It is a living nightmare.

With you on this on Ponty72. Can I just ask all those saying charity begins at home where exactly "home" is?

    Your house?
    Your street?
    Your town?
    Your county?
    Your country
    Your continent?
    Your planet?

Human beings are human beings, suffering is suffering whether it's in Kendray or Kazakhstan, Pilley or the Philippines, the crap you're all talking regarding hospital closures is a political/economic act - if you don't like it do something to change the politics, the disaster in the Philippines is a massive natural disaster on an unprecedented scale, shame on anyone who thinks "charity begins at home" is a suitable excuse for your inhumanity, pig-ignorance and stupidity.

As stated above no-one knows how much the Beckhams have donated privately, the auction of their property will encourage others to donate a bit more, where's the problem except in your heads?

FBC it was me who brought up the saying Charity Begins At Home.

OK. Maybe best to get your fact right first.
Also dinna go about decrying people as in "charity begins at home" is a suitable excuse for your inhumanity, pig-ignorance and stupidity, and where's the problem except in your heads?

Take a long hard look at your self. What exactly was your point in your torrent of abuse?

Get my "fact" right? What fact was that?

Re-read what I wrote, "shame on anyone who thinks "charity begins at home" is a suitable excuse for your inhumanity, pig-ignorance and stupidity". This is a statement of my belief, if you are offended by it then you must think that the phrase "Charity begins at home" is a suitable excuse, if so then I reiterate, shame on you.

    There was no abuse.
