I'm no fan of our manager right now but Skeletor is not the answer.

 

Not a cat in hells chance.

 

That's been the case for weeks, I wouldn't read too much into it. Sure Ben & Maurice can attract a good quality replacement.

 

There could be something in that.

Appleton was at Man United as a player when Watkins was there as chairman and he's obviously got a good agent and may know Mansford through that line of work.

I seriously hope he stays out of work because his abilities could ruin any club, especially ours.

 

I'd rather bring Keef back

 

I'd honestly bring Keith back now if I could. Just for the shitstorm it would cause.

What about Mike Phelan.....Maurice Watkins has the MUFC connections here?

 

Yes I think he would do a decent job, not much personality though.

 

What has Mike Phelan done as a manager?

 

Well respected at the highest level.

 

In-line with what Flicker had done, when he got the job.

Whitey, I'm not saying he's my favoured option, but you can't ignore what he's done at MUFC.

 

I remember him as a solid footballer. He was on the coaching staff at Man Utd, yes. But how does that equate to him being a good 'manager' in his own right?

If that's the case, I say give it Bobby Hassell.

 

So was Appleton.

And so was Danny Wilson. LMA manager of the year, wasn't he?

 

And rightly so.

His ethos seems to live on.

 

If we are going for someone with Man utd links.

Then our next manager should be Olle Gunnar Solskjaer

 

Can you think of anyone

Who'd be universally accepted as Flitcroft's replacement, Andy mate, if he were to lose his job? Some want an experienced man to come in (Mowbray/Wilson/Warnock), some want an appointment from within the club (Mellon/Hassell), some are wanting an experienced coach (Phelan). If a man is appointed who doesn't meet with someone's personal approval, will they give him the opportunity to prove himself, or will the criticism start immediately?
I'm glad I don't have to make the decisions, as I don't know the answers.

I'm a little puzzled at the apparent high regards he seems to be held in within the industry. His managerial jobs have been short lived & unimpressive, so difficult to judge too accurately. Perhaps he's highly regarded as a coach? I simply don't know.

I don't think there's anybody out there who we could attract who would be universally accepted.

I've seen far too many managers come and go in my 25 years following the reds. Think it's 16 or more. Which is frightening.

But in that time, only one of them has been a hero that was promoted from within or whatever - John Hendrie. And he was deemed by many to have failed. I think he was always likely to struggle, after the success of Danny. But his win percentage was just under 40% when dismissed and he did bring Dyer and Hignett to the club for which I'll be forever grateful, and was key to us getting to the Premier League as a player.

Since then, we've tried a foreign manager, an academy manager, assistants getting promoted, an experienced manager, lower league managers.

And so if we make a change, I would like (and it's just my personal choice, not saying it'd be right or would work) someone brought in with a BFC connection, an affinity to the club. In fact, I'd like as many BFC connected people brought in as possible. People who loved the club, performed well for us and people that I would hope would be given the time necessary by the fanbase (as unlikely as that ever is).

Hassell/Moore

Wilson/Redfearn

Steve Davis




And the likes of Eaden, Taggart, Barnard, Sheridan, Liddell are all out there coaching in some capacity. I'm probably yearning for the past. I can't help that. I loved that era. I loved those players. So I'd take any of the above names in some way, shape or form, because as Keith Hill used to tell us regularly, Barnsley fans are stuck in the past...

I still hope we give flicker time and that he turns it round like last season , if things don't improve and we have to get rid , then I think bobby will be involved in some capacity, and maybe alongside another club hero hignett or redfearn to turn the season around
