After going yesterday and spending a small fortune as i do with most away games i have now decided enough is enough. We did play well yesterday which other fans who attended have pointed out but unfortunately Flickers "naivety" and "loyalty to players who cannot cut it at Championship level will send us down. Flickers survival is based on last season and we cannot let this cloud the RESULTS and FACTS that he is not good enough for this division. I am at the stage now where i cannot motivate myself and my 2 sons to go as the dissapointment gets worse after each Poor result. We need a change quickly to save the season. To those who disagree then i suggest you look at our results and place in the table. The only saving grace is that there are teams around us who are not performing either. Who would i want as manager.... i never thought i would say this after he deserted the club... but Wilson would do a job for us and thats who i think we should approach sooner rather than later.
No thanks not Wilson , no proven record at this level. If we are to cut the cords with flcka I hope the current hierarchy have a replacement In clear sight rather than the last fiasco
Not with a limited budget he didn't in fact I think he ad some very favourable resources in that era and fell well short of expectation Just to add he did well in his stint at well in this divsion but just as flicka did last season?
You don't think he worked with a limited budget? Really? We were forced to sell our top scorer in 1996 (Payton) for 250k. We'd flogged Taggart a year or so earlier. Watson - youth product Eaden - youth product Moses - youth product De Zeeuw - 250k from Telstar Thompson - free Bullock - 15k from Eastwood* Sheridan - 10k from Winsford* Bosancic - free Marcelle - free Liddell - youth product Wilkinson - free Hendrie - 250k Shirtliff - free Redfearn - 150k (not a Wilson signing) Davis - unknown (not a Wilson signing) Appleby - 200k Jones - youth product Hurst - youth product Regis - swap for Rammell Ten Heuvel and Van der Velden - frees *Shez and Bully were signed when Anderson was gaffer, Danny assistant I'm more than aware the game has moved on etc, and I'm not banging the drum for Wilson's return. It could only go wrong, probably. But I'd much rather him than the vast majority of names that will be banded about if Flicker gets the push. And I hate how people try to play down what we achieved under his stewardship. He, his staff (Winny especially) and the players performed miracles that I will always cherish and always defend.
We did, you're right. He made a fair few errors, as do most managers. Even Fergie did. But if he hadn't signed Regis you'd never have had that moment to savour where he collided with the frame of the goal, and that was PRICELESS.
Whitey I wasn't refering to his spell at the well in regards a large budget I know he didn't have a large budget at oakwell. My meaning was the large budget he ad at brissle and failed. He aso ad a good budget to work on at Swindon and failed. He did nothing on a low budget at blunts. However it seems my points were,t well put but to make it out iI was belittling his achievement at well is wrong.
I can't defend his record at other clubs too well because I'm not privy to the circumstances. But he got Hartlepools promoted. Got Bristol to a playoff final, and the Blunts. He had the Blunts in a playoff spot when sacked. Hardly his fault that Simonsen missed a penalty, or Evans becoming a rapist. He didn't have a big budget though at Swindon, he had to rely on loans and signing non league players, like Charlie Austin who was then flogged. That's my best attempt at defending him.
He gt sack at Bristol because of the mount f money he spent for expected achievement But there must be more to his sackings than him bing hard done by IMO. But never ever would I put down his first achievement at the well ie promotion to premiere I would however take issue with his decisions once he gt us there
Laughing. That 6th place finish in his first season, the one that would have got us in to the play-offs in any other year, number of players Wilson signed before and during that season: none. Whitey actually under valued Wilson's record at this level. He's had a 6th place finish, a 10th place finish (The disappointing second season. 10th, disappointing, ha!) and a 2nd place finish.
