Is how quickly so many on here have turned on Flitcroft yet they backed the Berk to the hilt for so long. There's no two ways about it - Flitcroft did a cracking job last season and is generally a likeable bloke. The Berk was a useless manager pretty much from day one and also a complete and utter toss piece yet people stuck by him, even when it was clear we were headed for oblivion. Strange.
We were all happy at one point with Mr Hill, have a read of this preview: "The Tykes, who have climbed up to ninth place in the table, three points adrift of the play-offs, are chasing their fifth straight league win." http://www.teamtalk.com/news/11713/7363653/Barnsley-v-Ipswich-preview
I havent quite given up on Flicker yet but its getting increasingly hard. My biggest problem is that last season Flicker had us playing the sort of football I wanted to watch - it was also successful which is important so I was very happy. This season he has changed the football we play to a sort I don't particularly want to watch - its also not sucessful so a double negative - I dont know why he has done that but having got the fans onside by playing entertaining high energy football they are doubly unhappy that we have gone to a negative approach trying to keep a clean sheet and possibly nick a goal oh and failing as we aren't scoring anymore. Under Hill we didnt really have the good bit first so we weren't so obviously going backwards
I liked Keith. Dunt really feel the same for Flitcroft. He just seems a bit dense to me. Keith was a thinker. And a lovely person. Cracking combination.
Yeh I got 25s too Decent ew bet I thought - Only got 10s for Chesterfield. Wonder how many Reds fans have also backed Keith Hill???
As soon as I saw he'd recruited Lancashire at the back, and Henderson full time up front, it was easy money. Could have got 40's on them for the title, but didn't risk it as I expected Chesterfield to walk it with Gary Roberts etc.
Was he ******** a thinker. He was yet another footballing pseudo intellectual who liked the sound of his own voice.
He's a successful manager. What he did here was akin to Martinez's achievements at Wigan. He told me so.
'I understand what Barnsley fans want'. Not at the moment Flicker old pal. Regardless of system I just want to see a team of grafters willing to go forward.. We saw that v Huddersfield. Not seen it since. And we did have the good bit. Mid table in January 2012. Who'd have thought that when he took over? And then we know what happened.
I reckon we'll be playing a Keith Hill side next year. And we might just end up finishing under them.
Last season for me was epitomised by the results and performances at Blackpool and Middlesbrough in particular. We went in to both of those games full on trying to attack and win the game, and when the other team scored it wasn't that much of an issue because we just kept attacking. That's what I associate with Flicker, the attacking , hard-working team that went to win (especially away from home). I remember the Ipswich game as well where we drew 1-1 but we dominated the game, Harewood missed good chances in that game. I think the problem might come from the fact that we successfully got a point each at Forest, Palace and Cardiff and he's tried to use these as a blueprint for our away games this season instead of the games V Blackpool, Ipswich, Boro, MK Dons, Bristol City etc. Against **** teams if you generally play for a point, you end up with nothing.
