No fear. Until playing for a point away at Millwall when they've not won in 7. Or get shipped out on loan after being told you deserve a forty game season. Or being picked to play for England when you've been told you've lost footballing intelligence.
I wonder if he sends all the strikerz players out on loan and then brings in 400 other kids to replace them
I lost interest at 'synergy' too but persevered. I'm even more baffled with Flitcroft now. I'm all for developing young kids but surely his efforts should be in his day job. At Barnsley. I thought Keith was a pr1ck but this guy is beginning to wind me up. Please get rid and get someone in who actually gives a **** about us.
I really hate the misspelling of words in business names, teams etc and this usage of the letter 'z' is horrible... FC Strikerz? Nearly as bad as that barber's shop on Laithes Lane, Fellaz Cutz.
Must admit that winds me up as well - I would seriously have expected that his day job doesn't leave him the spare time to get involved to this degree in local kids football, worthy aim though it is. If that is what he is interested in then I very much hope that he will shortly be able to devote as much time as he likes to it.
So who's looking after the team while he's doing this then? He's gone down a couple of notches in my estimation after this - and I'm one who is saying don't get rid, give him a chance. Bloody hell fire...
What Flicker preaches in this article and what he puts out on the pitch at 3pm on a Saturday and miles apart. How does he have the time to manage a team that is fighting relegation from the Championship, look after his family and newborn child and then submit articles to the Bolton News from his sideline coaching company? I quite like the "execute a perfect pass" extract........does this apply to Tom Kennedy when he curls it aimlessly up the left wing, time after time. Or when he checks back because his right foot is for standing only. Or is Tom Kennedy exempt from any criticism, cos he's Flickers' mate? RNL and Digby would be placed in stocks in the market square and subjected to tomato bombardment for such heinous crimes!
I'm not exactly pro-Flicker at the moment but I knew about him being involved in kids football last season. I went to the Lamproom do last year and he was talking about it quite a bit. He was saying he manages a kiddies team early Saturday mornings and then sets off to Oakwell. At the time I thought it was quite novel and when we're doing well, everything is looked upon in a different light. For the record, I'm not too bothered about this but it would be nice to know that he's giving us his full attention at the moment.
Some of the comments in this thread are a bit harsh. Everything he says in the article is true but trying to develop an ethos among young kids when results aren't important is completely different to managing in the Championship where results are everything. Keith Hill was slaughtered for trying to pass it around and not just hoof it forward. Now Flicker is getting slaughtered for trying to get the ball forward quickly, something that the majority of people on here wanted to see during Hill's tenure.
Blivy, I don't think the comments on this thread are harsh, I think they're pretty accurate. Flicker is not currently practising what he preaches, whereas last season, we played without fear. This suggests to me, he has changed his own philosophy?
Flicker's ethos is shaped and developed from his work alongside Keith Hill. Mickey Mellon's ethos, with which he was successful at Fleetwood, is based on a high tempo pressing game, played as much as possible high up the pitch. Go figure.
Re: Dead man walking Chuff me, the guy is a human being and parent as well as a football manager. Has anyone considered that it might be his kids team that he manages? After all, he'd be a suitable candidate for it! I've got no doubt that Flicker dedicates the majority of his time to Barnsley FC. However, we can't expect him to work 24/7, and he is entitled to having a separate life. If he chooses to spend that part of his life managing a junior football team then good for him. Results aren't great at the moment, and neither are performances, but I hate the vilification of everything about the club and the people that work there. If football was as simple as working hard (e.g. 24/7) to get results then anyone could manage a team. Creating a successful team is a careful formula, and I certainly don't think we've got it right yet...in the 1st team or the academy.
Re: Dead man walking JDB, some of the lists within this thread refer to the fact that there is a major disconnect between what the said article preaches and what Flicker is delivering to the REDS first XI this season, which in turn is a mile away from the positivity we had last season. Anyone with sense knows he has a family and that you need life outside of your normal job......don't think that's the main point here though. If ever I've wanted a bloke to succeed and stay with the club, it's Flicker (and I've watched REDS since mid 1970s).......but we are failing, again.
I can go along with Flicker on that article. His energy and ability to gel with people is not the problem. His love of football is infectious. My big problem with him is his tactics on winning a match.
