Following on from extremely northern's post about Barnard's goal 15 years ago. Which is the best goal you have ever seen from a barnsley player ? Mine was Jim dobbin in a reserve match from just inside the oppositions half. I know this has probably been discussed many times before but hey ho
Craig Hignett at home to Walsall. although when this thread is done again in a fortnight im sure it will have changed
It's a difficult question. In terms of the best strike, Barnard's has to be the best. In terms of meaning, Clint against Bradford made history, but then what about Redders against West Ham? In terms of skill, Paddy's takes the biscuit in recent history, but what about JCR against Donny? Very difficult question to answer.
Barnard's. Notable mentions for Hignett's (CricketJim's suggestion). Paddy's t'other month. Butterfield's vs Bristol City. Dave Regis'. And Paul Gibbs penalty.
I liked the Derrick Parker you cheeky boy goal but it's gotta be Barnard hasn't it or one from Ronnie Glavin's glory years.
Aylott from the half way line v Brighton. Banks third v rotherham.were two great efforts. But has to be barnards
Barnard. Can anyone remember who the goal was against in Keith's first season when Nathan Doyle hit a 60 yard cross field pass to O'Brien (?) who after a great first touch pinged a ball across the box for Andy Gray to slide home? Quality
I wonder what Paul Wilkinson thinks to all the glory Clint gets for that goal against Bradford. We won the game 2-0, so the goal that actually won us the game was the first by Paul. Clint's was just for fancy. Had he missed, or fallen down when he did that little stumble, we would have still won the game. Actually, if you take it to extremes... We finished the 96/97 season on 80 points, 4 ahead of Wolves, so we could have lost the Bradford game and still won promotion. The result that took us to 77 points, 1 above Wolves' final tally, came a couple of games earlier when we drew 1-1 away at Palace. Neil Thompson scored with a penalty. It was that Neil Thompson goal that won us promotion. The Bradford game was just us show boating. I think we should start celebrating the penalty, can anyone even remember it? Neil Shipperley had given Palace the lead in that game, the b'astard nearly kept us down!
