The whole country should be happy, even if you are not bothered about wildlife. The government have been shown up for the liars and frauds that they are. I'm angry that it ever went ahead. Despite it being a total shambles and failing to reach it's targets, there are still hundreds of dead animals. Some of us have been raising thousands of pounds to fund the saboteurs and patrollers and all the time that could have been spent of vaccinating these animals. Likewise, the government have spent over £5m on the cull including policing, that money could have easily vaccinated the cattle herds in those two counties and the police could have been freed up to chase real criminals.

Good. Can we have a proper policy now, a policy that listens to what the scientists recommend rather than one dictated by loons. Get the vaccination kits out like you should have done in the first place you ******* nob heads.

Vaccination is the way forward, for the national herd too. But there was always another agenda with the badger cull, it was more political than scientific. It is about Tory party funding and votes, promises made to the NFU when in opposition, the culpability of farmers for the genuine cause of the bTB outbreak - including the illegal movement of livestock, poor bio-security rules and practices and the misappropriation of public money. Then the revelation that Owen Paterson was selling bTB infected meat back into the food chain, into schools and hospitals when even Whiskas refused to touch it.

It has also become clear there are other motivations of farmers and landowners for whom the badger is simply in the way. It was no coincidence that many of the targeted setts were nowhere near cattle, but rather suspiciously close to expanding game bird farms and areas earmarked for development. I'm a member of the Association of Hunt Saboteurs and I know this for a fact, we are in process of producing a map of the areas targeted by shooters. The badger is and continues to be, a protected species at all times except within an area and timeframe of a cull endorsed by Natural England. So without a cull, they can not evict the animals from the land they want to develop in whatever manner. It was nothing more than attempt to wipe out a protected animal under the guise that it would lead to a reduction of bTB and save the tax payers or rather the government, money.

The lies and levels of deceit of the government here is extraordinary even for the Tories. There has to be a public enquiry and I really hope the truth will come out. They have tried to take the whole country for a ride, ignoring science, the ethical treatment of wildlife as well as the opinion of the vast majority of people and voters.

It's not over by a long way. They will try again to fix the figures and claim to have learned from their mistakes, before attempting to roll the cull out nationally next year.

As I said in another post, there is more to this than bTB. But if we can push forward a serious programme of vaccination of the badgers, then the government and farmers will be forced to do the same with cattle. They will still attempt to instigate a national cull, but this will weaken the argument.
