As a Sheffield United supporter and manager of the club for seven-and-a-half years, Warnock was always a hate figure amongst the majority of Wednesday fans. When asked by a reporter what he would do if he were manager of Sheffield Wednesday, Warnock famously replied, "As long as the whole of my salary was paid within 28 days, I would buy so many tosspots – although, come to think of it, their current squad would do – and **** 'em up so badly. Then I’d retire to Cornwall and spend the rest of my life laughing my ******* head off." Somehow, I don't believe he would be welcome at Hillsborough?
Warnock also said El-Hadj Diouf was basically a dirty cheating lovely person... 18 months later he signed him for Leeds. There's more chance of him becoming Wednesday manager than our manager IMO.
Blunt fans hated Danny Wilson because of connection with Fowls. Money talks, good results keep fans quiet for a bit.
If the carrot was big enough, he would go there. whats better them having supporters like these singing your name Sorry, I've made a bit of ******** of that
Only it wasn't a reporter and he didn't say exactly that. He was on Talksport on Monday explaining that him and Kevin Pressman were interviewed for a fanzine prior to the Blunts v Fowls derby. He was asked what he would do if put in charge of Wednesday and he said he would sign a load of useless players and get them relegated. It was all tongue in cheek and Pressman was laughing. Over time, that then got exaggerated into the myth above. Reading Porktalk there's a good 50% would have him in charge tomorrow.
50% of them who have very short term memories, they hated Warnock and wouldn't touch him with a barge pole, how times change.
I thought the same about their fans reactions......... until last night Listened to a dozen or so Radio Sheff callers on Footy Heaven and was amazed at the reaction. 11/12 in favour and championing it?!? I was amazed!!!
