Yet more evidence, here: http://www.wearebarnsley.com/news/article/4282/generous-footballer-donates-to-group The comments below are very interesting.
this is why testimonials are good things in the old days they were a thank you for the services and a kind of gratuity to the player who was sort of retiring... his nest egg as it were. These days many, many players who get such a testimonial very often do this sort of thing for a charity dear to their heart. I am in no way wanting to belittle Bobby's great gesture , I am applauding him massively and giving my complete respect to the man for this. But also it would be a really great thing if more and more players could make that achievement and commitment to a club to enable more testimonials and indeed more fantastic gestures like this to struggling charities. Top Man Sir Bobby I am proud you are a Barnsley player.
The man is top notch Yet again, unfortunately, someone has to belittle what Hassell has done by making sneering, condescending comments. The only reason Bobby's gesture has been made public is so the charity & the children's families can express their gratitude. Bobby Hassell is a great bloke, a credit to himself, his family, his faith, his community and Barnsley Football Club.
Re: The man is top notch Well done to Bobby and his Family. Do we do threads when all footballers give to charity. Luke Shaw gave £3800 to charity other week at 18 year old.
Re: The man is top notch It hurt that much to say something nice about Bobby that you had to get a little dig in, didn't you?
who has belittled the man Matey I totally find that a bit unpalatable to say the least. My nephew is a special needs guy and I have witnessed some wonderful gestures to him in m my time... And whilst I know very well that my heroine Laura's condition is not classed as special needs I know you and yours have been through a very dark journey at times. I cannot begin to think why anyone would try to take down any person who wants to try to improve the lot of some of our unfortunates in this world. It just beggars belief.
Re: The man is top notch I'm been honest. A lot of them don't say anything because they get a lot of stick for making it public. http://m.dailyecho.co.uk/news/10815192.Internet_trolls_target_generous_Saints_star/
Re: The man is top notch Personally, I prefer to hear of Barnsley players doing it for the Barnsley community and it disgusts me when people make derogatory, point scoring comments by trying to belittle them for doing so (like the person posting under the name Purple Haze).
Re: The man is top notch Bobby didn't go public. But you'd know that had you read the article. And nobody disbelieves you that other people donate to charity. I do. A lot of us on this forum do. But with Bobby being a BFC player, I deemed it worthy of a mention on a BFC forum.
Re: The man is top notch Do you really think i would post on that site having ago at him for it. Sometimes you can't say anything on here and i thought you were one of the ones who didn't just jump on anything and everything.
Re: who has belittled the man Matey Below the article are some distasteful comments directed at Bobby Hassell by someone posting under the name Purple Haze.
Re: The man is top notch i think it's great. i didn't read all of it. Just have and hes done good, really good. On Charity i would love BFC to do more. Arsenal are the leaders in this, all give 1 days pay to charity along with other things. Wish BFC did more.
Re: The man is top notch Havent you learnt the game on here yet Hemsworth lad, if your not in the 'clique' of jumped up to55ers then you cant voice an opinion.
