I was going more on the lines of not having to pay for stuff to be honest - install Navi-X into XMBC, it's brilliant.

Re: but again I thought that

i prefer icefilms and channel 1. i just find navi-x a bit unstable. plus my box has a tethered jailbreak, so it's a complete pain in the b0llocks when it crashes

one other question if some one might be so kind as to address please

Our big TV in the living room is a 42" HDTV, it has built in Free view and we have a cd player connected into it... would a gizmo like the ROKU have any affect on these things... I think at this time I wanna keep the freeview and also obviously the dvd player. This streaming TV stuff is a new world to me so sorry for all the questions .

Sometimes gets where something won't load for me but normally if you try it a few times it comes on eventually, haven't seen as much choice on anything else and great for 3pm premier league kick offs

Re: but again I thought that

    As jay said.

There's only two ways capita get your not having a licence and watching live tv.

    1) a goon turns up at your door and you open your gob. Hemsworth did if I recall and got done.
    2) a warrant from the court. These are very rarely applied for as the ******** swearing to oath in front of a judge can and have been done for contempt.

The bbc are the only company I know to get people to subscribe through outright fear.

Re: but again I thought that

As long as you respond to letters from TVL then you shouldn't ever get them knocking at your door.

I'm seriously considering not renewing it next time as the amount of live TV I watch is tiny and continues to go down - I'm generally busy until 8pm every weekday (apart from the odd browse on here) after which I either stick a film on or browse a catch up service to see if there is anything worth watching - neither activity requires a TV license.

With how viewing habits have changed, I bet there are hundreds of thousands of households (if not a few million) out there that could legally get away without having a license and I get the impression (mainly from a group of Facebook) that people are steadily realising this.

The only trouble is there will be a tipping point to the numbers of people choosing not to renew which will just lead to amendments to the Communications Act (or whichever one it is) that will include catch-up services in the requirements for having a license. This is probably being drafted now for implementation after the next general election.

    Respond?

    I bin them.

Not wasting a stamp on their automated process.

There's people who've never had a tv continually getting ***** of capita even having told them numerous times.

The beeb are panicked as it's going to end up costing them millions so they are from their point of view trying to steam roller an act covering all forms of broadcast.

It's a tax. Paid for through by fear.
