I'd be happy to have him....especially with Appleton supposedly in the running.

Despite what Mandric said I don't think he was ever really in the running - appointing him would have ripped their fanbase apart and there would have been riots had he not got off to a winning start.

I'm with you that he isn't wanted at Oakwell either.

Ridiculous. He's not in the team to run around and tackle people. Let's see if the next manager can get Perkins to create something.

I think great is stretching it. Better than average in the old fourth division though I was stupidly young so my memory might be playing tricks on me.

A great player? Really? I saw him play but I'm not capable of judging his performances as I was so young. I don't think I can remember him to be honest. The only players from that team I do remember were the ones Alan Clarke kept on. I've asked me dad about him and while he said Warnock was a decent enough player at that level he certainly didn't describe him as great. He left for York after us didn't he?

I reckon he was just on the wind up all along - classic Warnock

Really tough choice between him and Wilson for me.

I think Warnock would be more likely to keep us up but Wilson would be better long term.

One of the big draws for Wilson for me is that it is very highly unlikely that he would leave us again if things started going well - he's been burnt before doing that. Someone like Phelan would be off like a shot - so no continuity.

Would much prefer Wilson over Mellon but my choices are

    1. Wilson
    2. Warnock
    3. Mellon

I would like him or one of the Man U names mooted.

If it was Wilson or Mellon would get behind 'em too, but think we need a different tack.

I remember Warnock well as a player. To say how robust his teams have been he was a tricky winger, who I never recall making many
tackles. Did pop up in the box a lot & had a natural eye for goal.

Best managers usually were never great players. Couldn't say he was a Barnsley legend or owt, but has a very very good record.

Still don't think he'll come though.

Our mission is to stay up now. Again. Personally, I think the best manager is the man best equipped for that task. I think Warnock is that man. That said, I don't think there's a cat in hell's chance. He's used to much bigger budgets than ours

    With the exception of

Kevin Blackwell & Paulo Di Canio, I'll leave whatever preconceived prejudices I have behind at the turnstiles and give the new man my full backing.

Again, I was only young but I don't recall him standing out. My hero was Brian Joicey out of that side anyway.

I do seem to recall Warnock coming on as a sub though and then getting sent off shortly after. I think we'd already had someone sent off in that game (?Graham Pugh). I remember asking my grandad if the referee was allowed to send someone off when he'd only just come on, as I found it very unfair!

Brian Joicey my first Barnsley hero and last forward to score 20 league goals in a season.

Joicey for me - him & Peachey up front, formidable !

Remember Warnock as a bit of a winger (no sp)

In shock news I have also ruled myself out of the running to be Wednesday manager preferring to concentrate on my hobbies masturbation and existentialism "if everything means nothing and nothing means everything better have a ****".

I know why would we want an experienced manager with a proven track record at both ends of the table. Madness.
