I am sure there must be a lot going on behind the scene, will we have a new manager by next weekend? My guess is news will come out around Tuesday on the direction the board want the club to go. I think this will be the most important appointment in a very long time. It will show if the new management team really do intend to move the club forward or not.
Think you are right, this appointment means that Watkins and Mansford have an opportunity to set the tone for the future. That's why I cannot see this being Mickey Mellon, as it does not send out a positive enough signal to a dwindling and disgruntled fan base.
i personally don't think any appointment will be decided by mansford or watkins, but it'd like to think they were part of the decision making process

If you look at the two games Mellon has been in charge of objectively then you really have to say he has a strong case for the job. People seem to be ruling him out just because we lost yesterday - Burnley couldn't have had any complaints had they lost that game, we played the team that are top of the league off the park for large periods. It actually gave me a lot of confidence as a Barnsley fan seeing what seemed like a pretty run of the mill team now top of the league - just shows what having a good striker can do for any side. But back to Mellon - not saying he would be my number one choice, I'd rather we had someone with more Championship experience who knows what kind of team he needs to build to progress in this division, let alone stay up. But I suppose every team wants that and as we found out before Flicker got the job, we aren't a very attractive proposition which is why Mellon could end up being the best candidate out of the blokes we have a realistic chance of getting.
The cynic in me says that I think bugger all will happen this week. Then, if we get a result against Yeovil they will give it to Micky Mellon next Monday. The same cynical view is that if we had not lost yesterday then Mellon would be manager by tomorrow. The optimist in me says that they will announce Danny Wilson as the new manager some time during the week.
I'm optimistic that we get a fresh manager in. If Mellon is given the Yeovil game, which means 2 wins from 3, does that make home the messiah? I don't believe so, and we need a fresh start with an experienced manager at the helm.
No, I don't believe it does make him the messiah either. It doesn't necessarily mean he isn't the messiah either, but it is a risk that I don't think we can take. If we appointed Mellon and he worked wonders, then that would be great of course, but it just feels uninspiring and lacking in vision right now. I actually think we will be relegated this season unfortunately, whoever we get in, so for me it is just as important to ensure we have the right man to plan for the medium term. That's why I want Danny Wilson - for my money he is the most experienced, most successful manager, especially at that level, that we could realisitically attract.
Nothing. Mellon will continue until next weekend's game against Yeovil. Win that game, and he'll get the job until the end of the season. If we don't win, we'll begin the search for a new manager, probably getting rejected by two or three managers in the process.
i've got no inside info of any of what's happening behind the scenes, but i'm pretty disillusioned again. i believed mansford & watkins would have been slick enough to have a replacement lined up, before pulling the trigger....or at least a list of people they would go and instantly approach. but that doesn't appear to be the case. if mellon gets the gig, of course i'll back him. but i personally think it's the wrong way to go. i'd just like a quick decision, so we can get on with the season. the flicker appointment was publicly farcical, and we really don't need a repeat of that. with the christmas period and the january window coming up, we really really don't need this instability. it just feels like it's panning out to be a carbon copy of hill's sacking. not cool.
Surely this new regime will not keep gambling games away and do have a clear vision about who they want to lead us? If it was going to be a definite for Mellon, he'd have been given the job already. He hasn't, so that makes me believe there is a recruitment process on-going? We can't keep just waiting for the next name to produce 3 points, it's a suicide strategy.
Is that true or just your opinion..I believe WHOEVER the club appoints as new manager, they (the board) will think they are taking the club forward. Weather you, or I for that matter agree, is nether here nor there..its just a different opinion..
I have no idea - Mellon has done well enough the last couple of games for the club not to need to rush things so i wont be too surprised if he is still in charge next Saturday But if they are seriously talking to other experienced candidates we might have a new man in by then Whilst I would be quite happy with Danny Wilson if you are appointing a manager to get you out of the pub league he doesnt look to be the right candidate haviing failed quite a few times with different cliubs in the playoffs so I wouldnt expect us to bounce straight back with him in charge Personally Id give Mellon a couple more games and see if he can maintain the improvement - but if the club went and brought in Danny or Colin I wouldnt be too unhappy - not sure there are any other realistic candidates I would be keen on
I reckon Mellon will get the Yeovil game. Win it and he'll probably be appointed as manager. Lose it and we'll be looking at bringing someone in before the Leeds game - but I hope that Mellon can stay on as assistant.
Thing is though Farnham, DW consistently gets clubs to the play offs, which over a season's worth of games, is success. Once in the play offs, whether you win through or not is largely down to luck on the day - you are bound to be playing another one of the better teams in the division and on any given day, either could win. I don't think you can look too closely at the fact that he has lost play off games, look instead at the fact that he got his teams to play in them, year after year. I'd take that for starters.
I think They'll have sifted through all the applicants and will put together a short list from these, plus any who (although they may not have officially applied for the position) will have made it known that they'd be interested in the post. Initial interviews will be held, interviewees saying what salary, length/type of contract & transfer budget they'll expect & demand, the club explaining what salary, length/type of contract & transfer budget they're prepared to provide. Any potential compromises from both sides will be explored. If compromise cannot be reached, that candidate will drop out. The job will then be offered to the remaining preferred candidate. If he accepts, we have our new manager. If he doesn't, we move on to candidate Number 2 and so on until we reach the man who accepts the job. The club releases the anticipated statement, claiming the new manager was always their Number 1 choice, no matter what those in the know may claim. There'll then be a list of fans lining up to claim the choice is wrong, giving a myriad of reasons why. Or summat.
