According to Vital Barnsley - that is, if Mellon wins against Yeovil............ http://www.barnsley.vitalfootball.co.uk/article.asp?a=341336
To be honest anyone could write that so I dont take anything from it. They're suggesting Appleton is still in ontention. I think to suggest that is idiotic.
Phelan has to be a better choice than Mellon in my opinion, if they are really the options. I think Mellon's time may come elsewhere, but too connected with the past regimes for me if we are to move on. Time to make a clean sweep.
I suppose time will tell how accurate the report is, and then we will be able to decide if we will ever bother to read Vital Barnsley again!
If the club are really choosing Mellon on the basis of him winning or losing 3 games they need their heads checking. I doubt it's true. If they like him as a manager then the results of those games shouldn't matter.
I do think Micky Mellon is first choice and it doesn't take a genius to work that out. I cannot see Phelan being in contention at all unless a number of managers turn us down. I think Wilson will get it if Mellon doesnt and think Redfearn, Appleton and Chris Wilder will all be a lot closer to getting the job then Phelan will be. Can see Phelan wanting a job with a little less pressure of keeping a side up and he'll fancy his chances in the Premier League as iobs will come and go in the next few months
I'll be honest I'm not too sure about Phelan I know he's worked with fergie but it doesn't necessarily mean he will be a good manager, Brian Kidd springs to mind but then again Steve Maclaren hasn't done too bad.... I'm arguing with myself now.
I'd be very very disappointed, very frustrated and angry if Phelan was given the job. I still think it's Mellons' to lose and I am ok with that but if they don't offer it to Mellon there are far better, more qualified managers currently available. Bloody hell I would take Warnock before Phelan and I don't want Colin.
