It's more his perception of the erosion of British values and culture than a racist comment in my humble opinion.

Except immigrants don't get everything they want, that's a right wing media myth. It's been shown that immigrants are net contributors, ie they pay more in taxes to what they take out. They are less likely to be on welfare than the native population. My wife's visa specifically states "no recourse to public funds" yet the DSS wanted to know her income to take into account for my claim for unemployment benefit. Strange how I can't include her on a claim yet her income affects me claiming for myself.

There's a difference between Xenophobia and Racism, not a great deal I grant you, but there is, and the law deems it important.

If you saw me at 6:30pm in my favourite bar you wouldn't think I was elitist. Not possible to enjoy oneself more, anywhere.

ok then ... lets ask a simple question then

for how long has the British Isles quite been almost totally free from tuberculosis, its now becoming quite rife.... recently my work colleagues father aged 81 suddenly died, the ailment/disease that took him down is very rare in this country yet very common in Africa, it took him out in just 9 weeks... 9 weeks approximately the last time he went to the city to do some Christmas shopping. His family are really now going to have a wonderful Christmas... just like the family of soldier Lee Rigsby will too. Plagues.. Rats... too bloody right.

Hahaha!, why is calling a immigrant a rat racist?
There all different race, immigrant is the opposite of migration, there's no race in that.

    It's a terminology

My view for what it is worth is that DT's comments are, er, forcefully made, and it is defintely open to question as to whether there is any truth in them or whether it is just perception. However, reading through the comments on this thread and the original one, what is riling me more is the number of people who are suggesting incorrectly that the comments are racist. DT specifically made a comment about someone wearing a burka getting the help they need - whilst this is factually open to debate, the suggestion is no more racist than suggesting that someone wearing a duffel coat would get preferential treatment.

It is exactly this kind of view about what actually constitutes racism that has meant that any kind of comment about immigration is shouted down and all debate about the issue has been shut down for a number of years, something that I agree with DT about strongly.

They don't get hand out after hand out.

And two wrongs don't make a right but keep playing into their hands.

Agreed, most of the stories that appear about immigrant benefits etc are myths.

Also, just because someone doesn't explicitly use a racist term etc doesn't mean there isn't an obvious racist undercurrent to it...

P.s. Just to clarify re the 'can't say anything these days' mob, I'm not sat crying and self harming over here. I just think that the language used to describe people (who might even be reds fans!) isn't on. Especially what Xerxes said - no denying the racism of that one

I don't claim it to be racist. Just thick and embarrasing.

There's a little thing called cheap global travel now. Responsible for bringing many diseases back here.

Xerxes didn't say anything about race, his point was about religion.

So what have the killers of Lee Rigby got to do with benefits then? Completely unfair to judge immigrants based on the monsters that did that. To call immigrants plagues or rats goes down as racism in my book

if you want to highlight wrong in this country then look no further than how this Govt has demonised and has attacked large numbers of its own citizens. The Welfare state was created to for exactly this situation but your beloved Tories are taking this away from him. Ian Duncan Smith has just written off £40 million pounds of public funds in trying to push through the Universal Credit even after expert advice has told him to slow down. I could go on but I won't as I've probably already wasted my time with you.

ok maybe I was being simplistic by referring to what xerxes said as racism - religious discrimination then?
Something about what he said makes me doubt he distinguishes much between the religion and race though
