Why do we idolise the armed forces in this country? All this 'serving Queen & country' nonsense - they haven 't done that since the Falklands. Of course it isn't their fault, but our troops are little more than hired help for American interests these days.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then OK, perhaps racist isn't the correct word, but surely everyone agrees that his comments are unjust, no matter what the correct word to describe them is. I don't think comments or debate about immigration has been shouted down, it just appears to me that people have, quite rightly, shouted DT down for his comments.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then What, even if they are French, or German, or Spanish, or Swedish? I am pretty sure people from those countries are the same race as British people. You are confusing race with nationality. You don't understand the term racism!. I am not condoning calling immigrants rats, even though, along with many people, I have issues with how immigration numbers have been managed over the last few years. The phrase may plausably be called ignorant, if that is your point of view. But it was NOT racist.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then I see what you are saying, but DT wasn't talking about immigrants from any of those countries was he? If he was, it wouldn't be racist no, but we all know that he wasn't.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then Bloody hell I do understand the differences between race, nationality and religion. You're being pedantic
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then are you saying its only racist if they are from certain countries and not others jamdrop?
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then But wherever the immigrants come from, whether it is Europe (where the majority come from) or elsewhere in the world, he still wasn't making disparaging comments about individual people or groups of people based on their race, he was making comment about his view on their supposed preferential treatment when they come to this country. To be making a racist comment, he would need to be talking in a derogotary or offensive manner about the people concerned, not about the policies of our UK government and it's agencies.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then Agreed, he wasn't being racist, he was just talking complete ******.
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then I'm probably the only one who is, but I'm going to admit to be confused with all the terminology flying around in this thread. So for other people who would like a definition of the term race, here it is: race noun (PEOPLE) /reɪs/ C1 [C or U] a group, especially of people, with particular similar physical characteristics, who are considered as belonging to the same type, or the fact of belonging to such a group: People of many different races were living side by side. Discrimination on grounds of race will not be tolerated. An increasing number of people in the country are of mixed race (= with parents of different races). › [C, + sing/pl verb] a group of people who share the same language, history, characteristics, etc.: The British are an island race. http://dictionary.cambridge.org/dictionary/british/race_2
Re: ok then ... lets ask a simple question then Very surprised at the 2nd definition and don't agree with it, but who am I to argue with the Cambridge dictionary?
I love you... marry me please but seriously.. The somewhat downing of borders across the world has in fact allowed the spread of disease, ok my "1600 RATS" anology may have been a bit severe , but is it really that untrue. We have in hospitals Isolation wards do we not, so why not the same across borders... let me give you a seriously bad word here ... RABIES... but then lets get back to the social services bit, the benefits bit. Again I will shout it from the roof tops ( by the way Stahlrost this aint at you just that its within your thread) And I will take you all right back to Jaxx2... and if he cares to wade in Jedi One... there we have two guys who totally deserve .... now will any one dare come on here and tell me that some person from whatever part of the Euro deserves more than them in UK... sorry I do not agree. For me take every recent immigrant over the last 20 years and cut their money... but never ever cut people who have served this country so willingly. I wonder what the man we know as Harry Patch would have thought of all this... I wonder if he would have ever thought it was all worth his while like the many men he/they left in the trenches and saw their ghosts for years after... one being my great Grand dad... hellfire corner ...France.
you must be all of 13 give your country 30 years service... and still going... then come back and tell me about racism
Re: I love you... marry me please Which benefits do immigrants get that British people are not entitled to?
The issue is that the benefit cuts that the two gents you mention are suffering from aren't because of benefits being paid to recent immigrants (the amount of which is being paid is open to debate) it is down to a collapsing capitalist system, that needs to squeeze growth from anywhere it can...
