I believe the club's doing the right thing

In keeping things out of the public domain with regards to the manager's position. It's baffling to me why people leap to the conclusion that just because they've no idea what's happening & they're not being kept updated on a daily basis, then nothing must be happening. When news leaked out last January, from other parties, of our interest in Sean O'Driscoll & Terry Butcher, complaints were being thrown round that such information WAS appearing in the public domain, leading to the club being ridiculed by some of it's own fans when both men turned the job down. The club is damned if it does and damned if it doesn't.
With regards to Ben Mansford, I have every sympathy for this bloke. He's new to the job, only been in the position for six months. However, the level & type of criticism is laughable. The extremely pedantic autopsy of everything the man says, criticising any slight mistake or initiative, simply highlights the narrow mindedness of the critic, rather than any incapabilities of Mr Mansford. He's unlikely to get everything right straight away, but he's got to be allowed to find his feet (so to speak) with relation to the job in hand. Personally, I'd prefer him & Messrs Watkins, Cryne and Taylor to take their time and make an appointment they're all happy with, rather than rushing into one and having regrets shortly afterwards. There could be a number of reasons why an appointment hasn't been made already, some of which may be beyond the club's control. The lack of patience & tolerance seems to be endemic of the 'Right here, right now' attitude so prevalent in the game these days and football is the worse because of it.

I think the majority will agree with that mate, there are just 1 or 2 posters who for some reason believe that they are entitled to know everything the club is doing. The criticism of mansford by people, 1 in particular, who have absolutely know idea what is going on behind close doors is laughable and probably tells you more about the posters than anything else.
Personally i think a good result/performance on saturday will get mellon the job till the end of the season, not my personal preference but if thats what they go for then so be it, its there reputations on the line if it goes wrong, not mine and i will still be there supporting them the only way i know how, asleep in the eaststand

The lack of any news in this day and age is making people wonder if we're actively seeking a replacement and that why their talking about the lack of news coming out of the club because theirs nothing, no potential manager confirming he's been ruled out no agent pushing is client forward nothing and people wonder if its because they've got their man but for some reason their waiting to tell us

 

who knows but the powers that be may have identified the target they want and be in negotiations with him, not 2/3 others and a casual " aye-up do you fancy a stab at this and we'll let people know so they can go media sites and really slag you off", or "we've approached no one else, what would it take toget you here? "..................... just a thought like

 

Maybe they have their man but he was involved in the Champions League and wanted to see out the campaign. Mr Neil Lennon.

Just because we don't know what's going on doesn't automatically mean nothing's going on, as some people are claiming. The most obvious aspect of the current situation with Mickey Mellon in charge, is that he's an experienced manager currently on the coaching staff who can oversee the playing side of the club until a permanent appointment is be made. Some folk seem intent on passing off their opinion as fact & it really baffles me as to why they immediately jump to some insidious assumption and conclusion whenever the board of Barnsley Football Club is discussed.

 

If anything was going on it would get out, because is price on getting the job would shorten with the bookies as it always dose these days its impossible to keep it on the quie these days, watch out for a market mover and he's in contact with the club

If we get beat by Yeovil & Leeds, however I think fans will demand a different name, hence the wait.

I think the board have decided on Mellon from day one, but they know they need the fans behind him.

Not my choice, but I suspect most of the people I'd like to manage us wouldn't operate on the pittance of a budget they would have.

 

not at all i agree with you the club have gone about it the right way, Im just pointing what crack is, i can't see the reasoning behind not telling us Mellon as got the job but its better then looking daft like last time. But this could have been put to bed weeks ago

 

Hallef'ckinglujah!! Someone finally speaks a bit of sense on here. Makes me laugh about folk wanting a long term plan but then are rushing to get the new man in as soon as possible, it's important we get the right man however long it takes.

 

What if Mellon doesn't get it?
I'm probably being ignorant & naive, incapable or unwilling to see what's blindingly obvious to everyone else.
