Re: He's the fans' choice With respect Fired Wilson does not know this league at all, that was 15 years ago when teams like Griimsby and Oxford were in the division.
Re: He's the fans' choice Give me a better alternative. He knows Barnsley, he knows small budgets, he builds team spirit. Just give me one, better, affordable alternative.
Re: He's the fans' choice we're not going to be able to attract the warnocks and ollies. forget it. realistically, on pure credentials, wilson is probably about as good as we can shoot for. and i for one, don't want roaring success. just something other than abject misery every season, would be lovely. and right now, if it's a fans favourite that gets some buzz back in the stands, that will do me.
Re: He's the fans' choice The requirements are the same. Small club, no money, second (maybe third) flight. As I said to Offspring, just give me ONE plausible, affordable alternative. he is the best option.
I honestly really can't see there being too much pressure for instant success due to his past success. Surely people are not that stupid as to expect that are they? No-one I have spoken to wants more than to be able to enjoy going to Oakwell again and to live in hope that we may not be in the mix on the final day of the season every year. That would do for me. That would be success.
i'm not saying he hasn't. i'm suggesting he hasn't had offers which he feels would move the club forward and return his investment.
Re: He's the fans' choice If it's between Wilson and Mellon then it would be Wilson for me but surely there has to be other irons in the fire? If there ain't then things must be desperate and Mansford's attemps to attract more fans down to Oakwell will be an utter waste of time.
Re: He's the fans' choice And Phelan is also probably out of our price range, even though he has no experience. How much would he have been on at United, even as assistant, bearing in mind that the kids breaking out of the academy are on 10k a week when they sign their first pro contract. And if he wants a break in management, why on earth would he want to come to a club where the odds are not good that he won't have a relegation on his CV before the first 6 months is out. It would be madness. He would have to be some bloody good mate of Watkins for it to look even half way attractive.
I want a manger who knows how to play players in their correct positions, how to motivate even the lesser players int he squad to achieve more than their limits, a manager who can change a game positively, who knows how to pick a player from the lower leagues for nowt a manager you know will set his team up to go for a win rather than stagnating a game. If it's Wilson so be it. It won't be holloway, Colin, Mowbray etc. If it's Mellon we're ****ed.
if there's one thing i can absolutely guarantee you, it's that whoever gets the job, they will make decisions that divide opinion. guaranteed
