You see, the school boy (or school girl) error you've made in this thread is to have an opinion on cricket when you're a girl. Thus, you've been patronised and dismissed as a crank. We don't like girls in our cricket circles, we like the sound of leather on willow, blazers, Radio 4 long wave and loving.

On the other hand, I was being completely factual in what I stated. If you've watched every ball since the late seventies (see what I did there?) you've seen worse.

Yeah, I think I'll go back to swooning at Captain Cook - he is the best-looking cricketer EVER, after all! Now then, where can I get a mail-order poster of him from?

Ha ha. Yes, not sure how I managed to emigrate, work and have 3 kids in that time ;)but, outside some pretty abject one-day performances over the years, that was the worst 2 days of Test cricket (played by England) I have seen in a very, very long time. It must have happened, but I can't remember such pathetic batting, bowling, fielding and captaincy in the last 10 years. It's been laughable. Or maybe they've just been a bit unlucky .......... (for 13 days).

Which commentary team do you get in Canada.

    Sky?
    Fox?
    Channel 9?

Sky - Atherton, Bumble, Botham, Strauss, Warne, Hussain etc. Why? If you think they have been defending the England players, saying they have been "unlucky", you're mistaken. And Boycott doesn't even think that Australia's bowling has been that terrifying, but we just can't match it.

If I can salvage anything positive from this Test from an England perspective, then Stokes looks quite promising. Carberry has got himself into some good starts, but can't convert, and is not exactly one for the future. But, apart from those 2, there's nothing to excite me there about England over the next few years. A bit like the football team really ;).

Anyway, given that I know nothing about cricket or football, I'll go back to watching ice hockey from now on - at least there's some excitement there and I can actually enjoy watching a successful team (Canada in the Olympics).

I do know what they've been saying, There the commentators we have in England.
Stokes is a very good player. Scott Borthwick another good player from Durham Calgary but theres loads of good players.

I put a list on the other day.
Think Sam Robson will be the next good batsman to come through. Move Root to Opener and him at three in the summer in Trotts still not ready.

Ballence Bairstow Finn Mills To go along with them three.
The only thing I couldn't think of was the spinner.

If it ends up being a whitewash would you admit it's been a complete disaster?

You do realise that Robson isn't guaranteed to be test quality just because you think he will be. Nah, im being ridiculous aren't I.

Many a young player is vaunted as a future test player and very few get the chance to be selected and very few get the chance to nail a spot.

Jason Roy at Surrey has a lot of talent, but since the tragic death of Tom Maynard, the stuffing has been knocked out of him. He's just one of many.

I'm not hopeful for this group. We've had a very settled squad for a very long time and many are ageing at the same time.

Swann hasn't much longer in him and really don't know who we are going to replace him. The opening partnership is far from sorted. Same with number 3 and although Stokes has done well in the 2nd innings on a very flat pitch (albeit with a very large crack in it!) but I'm not convinced that's necessarily the way forward.

Same goes for Prior. Bairstow isn't the best wicketkeeper. Simon Davies at Surrey was seen as an obvious contender but he's not developed much in the last few years.

That we're being easily turned over by a very average Australia side tells the whole story. If it were South Africa, fine... but the convicts are a very long way short.

    Ray of hope

If the cracks in that wicket get any wider, the English batsmen may actually disappear down them.
