I've seen several comments over the past week or two suggesting that us fans will have unrealistic expectations if we appoint Wilson and the doom mongers are still bringing up that people will be expecting instant success and a repeat of last time he was here. But do any of us really believe that? Does anybody expect more than a return to decent football? Do any of us even think it guarantees safety this season? I certainly don't, but I couldn't be happier with this appointment.

Wilson got a few things wrong last time, but he got most thing right. He certainly impressed more than just the Barnsley faithful with the way he went about things, the style of football he played and with his ability to turn average players into much better players. This is all we want and this is all we are expecting. We may go down and probably will, because Wilson won't be given the money to change everything immediately and that wouldn't really be possible anyway, as it may prove difficult to find clubs daft enough to take some of the donkeys off our hands. But with Wilson in charge I would fully expect us to either be looking at a season of safety next season (if we stay up this season) or a firm promotion challenge if we go down.

So unless someone can honestly reply and say they are expecting Premiership football within three years, can we knock the 'unrealistic expectations' argument on the head, because even through all the giddiness I don't think any of us are underestimating the size of the challenge Wilson has over the next five or six months.

I am so looking forward to joining in with the welcome to him when he walks out of that tunnel on Boxing Day! I wonder if we could convince the Bolton players to do a guard of honour like the Birmingham players did for Norman...

Here, here.....100% agree with what you say.
Not sure Danny can save us this season but his appointment fills me with hope for the future.

i live a simple life. i just want a few things really...

    - to play attractive, positive football. we'll win some, lose some, draw some
    - to have a stable, settled squad, with players played consistently in their best positions
    - to see youth given a chance, in a controlled way
    - to put an end to this panic loan signing philosophy
    - to hear a manager talk straight, plain english

    oh...and a new scoreboard...and not a $hit Club crest :)

Don't expect anything. Actually, I expect us to get relegated. I just think we've made the right choice with who was available. I think Danny is a good manager and will help us in the long run, but if he gets us out of the mess we're in this season I'll be a little surprised. I certainly don't expect it, even if I'm desperate for it to happen. Whoever took us on had a hell of a job.

I can't see a way out of the mire for us this season so my expectations would be a spirited fight against relegation, clear out the less able players as soon as practical. Make tough decisions regarding the development of young players and a fight for the play offs in league 1 next time around playing decent football.

Completely agree with the first post, I was about to write something similar. Delighted with the appointment, putting feelings to one side he had the best record of all the available, realistic options.

He's inerrited a poor squad, very low on confidence, we have maxed out our player loan limit and we all know January is a hard window to do decent business in, so it is going to be very tough. I expect us to go down this year, anything else is a bonus. I honestly do not expect attractive football to magical start happening, he needs time to build his own squad with players who can play and that won't happen until the summer transfer window. Next season, which ever league we are in I will be excited and not until then do I expect anything.

Couldn't agree more, at least Danny Wilson will give us hope. And hope is a factor that has been missing at Oakwell for a long, long time. I am sure the fans will get behind Danny, which can only be a good thing going forward!

They'll always be a few nutters

Like the genius who proclaimed to Flicker that he had "destroyed my club". Like Godzilla, I assume.

This is mentaility you're talking about. Some folk can't wait to embarrass themselves.

Excellent Post... (before any grammar police come in to this, for some reason, the return/enter key will not give me a new paragraph, so I will do it Young Nudger Style)............................................................................................. Do I expect Danny to get us to survive? No.......... If he does, brilliant. But I have a buzz about me now that I had at the beginning of the season. Now, if 95% of the crowd get the same buzz as me, it should make for a decent atmosphere. Which in turn will lift the players, and hopefully, and I mean hopefully, we can get out of this mess and survive. Like last year.................... So lets get behind Danny and the boys, we can help make this happen....................................... Small Print. If it doesn't, then so be it. I had after Saturday resigned myself to relegation, and if that still happens, I will be right behind Danny (so to speak) to try and get us back here........................ Yoooooooooooooo Reeeeeeeeeeds

    Spot on.
I'm glad it's him because out of the options we seemingly had, he was the best choice.

Chances are we may still get relegated, but I am looking forward to a new era.
