    Will he serve 35 years?

In my opinion, he should have been given life. As in, life. Never to be released. I seriously don't see how you can rehabilitate someone who attempts to rape a 12 month old child. I mean, that's about as ****** up as it gets, isn't it? But yes, life meaning life.

he's available for parole after serving 2/3 of his sentence. so a minimum 20 years. as much as i oppose capital punishment, i personally do not believe he should be allowed to walk the streets again.

For me, prisons are primarily to protect the public from those who represent a danger. If, when Watkins has done his time, he is still thought to be dangerous then he shouldn't be let out. I don't believe in a set amount of time and then back on the streets if they are still willing and capable of what they were put in there for in the first place. Obviously, it's down to the discretion of the experts and it's open to abuse, but I'd rather them be cautious than let out a murderer or sex offender to re-offend.

On the flip side of that, I believe there are many people in prison who do not represent a danger to society, who shouldn't be in there, who should be paying back their debt in a far more useful manner than rotting away in prison costing the tax payer a load of brass.

He will serve 29 years in prison and then 6 years on licence.
Capital punishment will never return because if there are jury members who oppose capital punishment they will find a defendant not guilty regardless of the evidence.

That's not correct is it? Sentencing comes after the jury give their verdict so they don't know what the sentence is going to be when giving their verdict.

There was somet on news otherday, about him earning up to £100k in royalties by this time next year. This is supposed to be from Lostprohets videos on YouTube and stuff. Anything with him involved should be scrapped completely, whether that's his music videos on YouTube or his music getting airtime on the radio (which I seriously doubt will happen anyway).

Thirty five years is an acceptable sentence if he serves it in full. Personally I would have told the dirty scroat he was getting a full life tariff and then thrown the key away.

Eh? Not that I've ever cared about Lostprophets, but that wouldn't be very fair to his bandmates who have nothing to do with these sickening crimes.

Just hope his 20 years + are the most horrible and uncomfortable 20 years he'll ever know.

I'm sure there will be a welcoming committee waiting for him wherever he ends up.

Too right. Whilst it was funny Jeffrey Archer being sent to prison, what good did it serve us. All he did was write more rubbish to flog when he was released. And when he was released he went back to his privileged world. What he should have been doing was voluntary work, 40 hours per week, for however many years it takes to cover the £500k he fraudulently got from whichever paper it was he lied to. And who believes that was the end of his financial crimes? People like that should be stripped of their wealth and forced to do something good. With the millions we'd save by keeping them out of prison we could employ people to supervise these criminals to ensure they are doing what they should be. There are enough dirty streets, public fields and gardens in need of repair, old people who need help with shopping and cooking, etc that these people could be helping with. Who knows, it may teach some of these privileged gits that rather than robbing their fellow citizens, actually helping them can be rewarding too.

Prisons are for murderers, violent criminals, people who break into your homes, rapists, paedophiles, sex criminals, terrorists, basically people that pose a physical threat to us and not for MPs who fiddle their expenses, people who don't pay their TV licences and tax avoiders. Financial criminals need severe financial punishments, not locking up.

Ahh it would be unfair on other members a band, but it has to be done IMO.

Couldn't agree more. And that goes for working class people who commit so called white collar crime too. Serves no purpose having them in gaol. They should be using their skills to help other people, to help society.

prison is a jungle, full of animals. i wouldn't celebrate anyone for doing it, as they're probably just a different form of scumbag. but i wouldn't bat an eyelid, for any 'retribution' that went on behind those concrete walls. i can't remember ever being as affected as much as i was, when i read the details of what happened.

35 seems ok to me, and even when he is up for parole they can still keep him in there if it's determined he's still a danger to teh public.

As for comments like "he'll get taken care of", by whom? Other criminals? Other folk who have done bad stuff. Sorry, but I can't condone anything like that, would I mourn him if something happened, of course not but I wouldn't celebrate either.
