Just watched the manager's Thursday pre-match interview on player. Danny came across very well, obviously just a few days in but still having to go through the press obligations prior to the weekend game. For most of us it's a seriously intense flashback, deja vous or whatever to the glorious mid 90s. But what struck me, is that Danny's down to earth, yet optimistic realism of the game and his role in that, doesn't appear to have changed a jot. I noticed he was a bit cowered at Tuesday's press conference, especially with Bazzer guarding our end, obviously returning - rightly, with a tadge of humility and respect for what has gone on in the years between. We see managers age, weekly or annually depending on the stress of the job they're in. Getting more wary and cynical as football kicks the spirit out of them. So much is obvious in Jose Marinho right now - and Fergie, Harry, Allardyce etc - wear their battle-scars like badges. But Danny looks and sounds unaffected by his time in the game - and let's face it, he's been kicked about enough himself. He's obviously grown, but the twinkle in the eye, the knowing smile and the disarming humilty are all still there. I'm excited. Thoughts anyone?
Agree Mr C, its like we've got a proper football manager again, a chink of light in the League of Gentlemanesque comedy nightmare that has decended on Oakwell over the last three years, the fog is clearing ,we dare to dream again
His experience shines through. Watching the interviews, still looks and feels slightly surreal. I'll judge him by what I see on the pitch, and past glories count for nothing now. But I'm soooo glad we finally have a manager who doesn't just constantly talk $hite.
He's slapped a bit of timber on and he's still wearing that same syrup he had on in 1994 but aye t'old lads not changed much.
Yeah, certainly given everyone a lift. He won't have had too much time with the team, so will be relying a lot on MM for the first few weeks where we have some crucial matches. I'm sure confidence is a big factor with the players, so he may be able to have an impact in that area. Will be a vocal following at Elland Road & the two home games. We are playing some in form sides, but those are the sorts of teams we have traditionally given a bloody nose to, so who knows. He does need to hit the ground running if he is to turn it around this season. The bulk of the fans on here have got their man, so you have to take your hat off to Mansford & the board too for listening & making it happen. I was sceptical about Danny returning for all sorts of reasons, but I do really like his persona & will be behind him 100%
Spot on. Listened to Danny on Radio Sheff last night & it brought back so many memories. Great stuff!
Syrup Ar, that were Mrs GatB's first comment when he was on Look North "he eithe rdyes his hair or he's got a good wig"
Re: Syrup I have always liked Wilson and I've every confidence in the guy and I reckon in a few weeks - well maybe a couple of months - we'll be in a comfortable mid-table position.
Re: Syrup I said on here I wouldn't have minded him taking over from Robins - then we set on Hill and he went to the Blunts. I'm really hope he can make a difference, after all we've essentially most of the same players that tore Leicester appart at Oakwell not that long ago. Oh and I hope he makes RNL into our next legend.
Re: Syrup It's weird, normally I hate listening to interviews, they make me cringe, but I could listen to Danny's all day.
