Bit random, but who was at Oakwell when he played against us for Pompey?
I remember him playing for the old Yugoslavia when I was a young un, and thought he was some player. But he must have been old when he played against us, yet his display in that match is one that always sticks in my mind. Bit like Le Tissier in the League Cup during the Prem season, and Bergkamp twice the same season. Standout performances from top top players. Prosinecki was just impossible to get the ball off. Ridiculous timing of everything he did, and did it so effortlessly. Not a show off like a Ronaldo these days, more of a Gascoigne or Albertini. Just oozed class.
I felt honoured to have watched him. And I applauded one of their goals in that game. Was it Jamie Vincent? Left peg volley, similar to Barnard's? My mind reckons so.
Anybody remember what am talking about, and which standout individual performances against us do you always remember?

Prosinecki was incredible in a game at Oakwell that I recall, certainly. Think they mullered us, was it on Sky?

He was outstanding. One of the best individual performances I'd seen at that level, without a doubt.

Yep I remember that, at the end of his career, virtually walked through the game, but we couldn't get near him.

Seem to think he got a standing ovation from both sides when he was subbed

When we played them at Fratton Park, he scored a hat trick. A penalty, a brilliant solo goal and a wonderful free kick. I wasn't at that game, though. We drew 4-4. Mike Sheron equalised late on I think.
Truly great player who is one of the few to represent both Real Madrid and Barcelona. And the only player to represent two different nations and score at a World Cup. European Cup winner, too. Back when it was a proper cup. 1991. Managing in Turkey nowadays.

Yes, me and the fellow London based Reds watched it in the Euston Flyer. Completely tore us apart.

I recall Kevin Keegan doing something similar when Newcastle beat us 5-0 at Oakwell.

Saw both games. He was a genius. I've got a few mates who are Pompey fans and they worship him though don't appreciate my poor mam's Ronnie Glavin comments. The game at Oakwell definitely in my top 3 performances against us at any level. I remember clapping him off.

    Cheers.

About 1 minute in is his solo goal against us at their place. Incredible technician. Very Gazza-esque.

He was incredible that game. Although to be fair that is possibly the worst Barnsley side I ever had the misfortune to watch at second tier level.

I was hoping you were going to tell us he was a free agent and we were looking at him.

I remember that Keegan performance too. He was at the end of his career but tore us apart. Brilliant player.

On the other hand, there was Ginola's performance against us which was decidedly average ( i.e. crap) but earned all the plaudits because of THAT goal. Never noticed him before the goal.

Yes I remember his performances against us very well, he was a fantastic player and really was a country mile better than anybody else on the pitch, certainly better than anybody in a red shirt.

I do vaguely remember the Keegan performance too (84 / 85) I think. He'd just come back from Hamburg and I was really excited to be watching the ex England captain and former European player of the year.

Also seem to remember a young Lineker coming to oakwell with Leicester and showing his quality. Distinctly remember dad saying in the car "he'll play for England that boy".

There's some useless ****ers on that team sheet. Problem is the current set are no better overall.
