Clearly good enough, how on earth he couldn't get in their team when we were shipping goals is a disgrace.

It's probably the worst aspect of Flicker's tenure; that his favourite defenders shipped goals week after week and yet Bobby barely got to the bench. Stubborn and stupid

Well it serves him bloody right that he isn't then, and has just dropped into the bottom 2 in the footbal league. A good manager puts personal opinion of an individual aside for the good of the team. Flicker clearly wasn't.

And lost Bobby nigh on two seasons of his career. I amazed he stayed with us and with such dignity and professionalism.

I wonder if he will get paid what he's worth now too?

Football managers, like the rest of us, are human and get things wrong. Alan Clarke brought some superb players in for Barnsley during his initial tenure and completely transformed the club, but he also let David Speedie go thinking he wasn't good enough.

If Flicker didn't rate Hassell then I disagree with him, strongly, but I haven't got a problem with it. If he left him out of the team for personal reasons then I'm less impressed by that. Managers in all professions will have people working under them who they don't like on a personal level, but they've got to put those feelings to one side, be professional about the situation and utilise those employees to benefit the company. The good managers do, the not so good ones don't.

I don't know why Flicker left Bobby out of the team. If it's because he didn't like him, I hope he changes that approach in future when he encounters other players he doesn't like. It'll make him a better manager and in my opinion a better person. But it may not be for that reason at all. Whatever people may tell you, only he knows for sure.

I'm convinced both Hill and Flicker didn't like Hassell. But the argument that they didn't pick him for that reason makes no sense. Certainly one, and probably both, of them had a huge ego and both desperately wanted to be successful, whether for personal reasons or not. So why would they leave someone out who they felt would improve the team? I genuinely believe they just thought he wasn't good enough, or it was at least borderline. They were wrong of course (as lots of our managers have been at different times). But disliking him and not thinking he was good enough aren't mutually exclusive.

Looking forward to seeing Bobby play though. Legend.

Only three people have thought Bobby wasn't good enough to play for the last two seasons, unfortunately two of them had a very big influence on his career.

Bobby was brilliant today. Certainly the best player on the pitch in the first half. Dreadful to think he couldn't get in our struggling team for reasons other than ability.

What I don't understand either is that in MMs 3 games in charge Sir Robert didn't get a look in either?!?

Then after a couple of training sessions he's straight in?!? Strange to say the least

I wonder how much advice Wilson is actually taking off Mellon on our players then? Mellon had three games and his selections weren't vastly different from Flitcroft's and Bobby didn't get a look in - have to admit I was surprised with just how good he was yesterday.

but look at it this way fella....

Danny sees them in a different light, to that end its like we have just signed two new players. Maybe we can now realise the potential of some of our home produced youngsters too.

To be fair, Danny said himself, he's followed Hassell for years. He already knew exactly what Bobby brings, and won't have needed any advice from Micky on that one
