Hope so, get a small fee, free up wages to bring in a better player.

Good. I can't fault his effort and commitment but he lacks any form of quality on the ball, and his tendency to make rash challenges makes him a bit if a liability.

Interest in any player is great, hopefully we'll get a decent undisclosed fee for him so Danny can start building!

Wilson was on the radio earlier saying he wants a striker. I thought we were relatively OK in that department but I'll trust his judgement. For me it's the service to the strikers that's the problem, saying that we do fail to put some very good chances away quite often.

Personally I'd prefer to get shut of both perkins and etuhu and keep Dawson. Unlike them he has actually got a decent shot on him and doesn't have heart failure if he gets near the opposition box. Oh he also knows how to tackle. Two vital attributes that neither perkins nor etuhu have in their arsenal

He might be looking for a target man as Flitcroft only bothered to keep one who is now injured

    1 left back
    1 target man
    1 permanent keeper

For a manager who was backed to the hilt and allowed to bring in enough players that we now have squad members with 50+ on their shirt that is absolutely appalling and shows just how bad he was

I find it hard to believe that any Championship club would be looking at Dawson.

When flicker was asked what he would have done differently at Barnsley, he said the recruitment choices he made.

Tbf he did buy decent players, just too many in the same position, and too many "projects". He could sell sand to Arabs could flicker tho.

Dawson's effort in the second half of last season was one of the factors that helped keep us up, so we should be grateful for that. But if we are to move forward we do need to be looking at better players, so if we can get a fee we should take it and wish him well.

This tells me that we are trying to move him on.

    Agree, Gordon.

The speculation about Dawson seems to come from the fact (?) that he's out of contract in the summer, and we may well want to cash in on him in January.

I'm not anti Dawson but the stats don't back up that he was key to our survival in the second half of last season. Out of the last 19 league games last season Dawson only started in 6. He was injured against Ipswich on 19 Jan and didn't start again until 1st April. Played against Leicester / Crystal Palace / Cardiff & Charlton. Got a red against Charlton and missed next 3 so started in final game against Huddersfield. These six games were 1 win, 4 draws and one terrible loss.

Nobody said that Dawson was "key to our survival", PB.

Gordon Ottershaw actually said that "Dawson's effort.....was one of the factors that helped keep us up". Not quite the same! And I took that to also include Dawson's battling attributes, epitomised by his snarling at various centre halves twice his size.

The rest of Gordon's post also said that we need to be looking at better players.

I'm also much more in favour of basing an opinion on what I see on the pitch, rather than what I see in a pile of statistics, and what I saw last season was that Dawson never stopped trying whenever he was on the pitch. He also seemed key in encouraging those around him, whether he was on the pitch or on the bench, much as big Marlon was.

If we just go by stats, Trevor Aylott, Neil Shipperley and Paul Wilkinson would have all been dropped, because their goal contribution was lower than midfielders in the same side and they all went lengthy spells without scoring. Fortunately, anyone who watched them play saw how big a part they played in their respective teams' success. Stats can often be made to prove anything you like.

In last seasons battle Dawson's positive qualities came to the fore. His never give up attitude and bravery they are unfortunately also the things that limit him because he does not have the ability at this level to take it further as Gordon indicated. Cracking buy for someone in the league below though.
