If we are to only play 1 creative player behind the strikers which of these 2 would you choose? Mellis all day every day for me.

    We need both

If I'd to choose, it'd be McCourt every time. But, as I say, I'd play both.

I would love to see them both but can't see it happening too often.

    Both.
If we don't start attacking teams soon we'll be dead and buried by February. The alarming thing for me is tgat none of our midfielders other than JOB is looking for a shot.

I'm not Danny Wilson, so I don't know whether it'll happen. It's just my opinion. I think we should play our best players and, in my opinion, these two lads are amongst our best. I know others disagree, but frankly my dear I don't give a damn.:D

    Re: We need both

I have not seen much of Paddy, so I cant say. I would love to play with some flair and make the opposition worry about us though. From what I hear on the BBS and from my son Paddy is the sort of player that can create goals and magic out of nothing. he would be in my side just for that reason.
Mellis is a player I have always thought would be a good player, he has taken some time to get there but he is going to be a good for us.
So what I am probably saying is I would play them both, at home anyway.
Bobby in front of the back four JOB wide right, Mellis central and Paddy on the left, switching with JOB whenever needed. No over complicating things, get the ball to the players that can damage the opponents and get it to them quickly, put the Derby side under pressure, make THEM make mistakes. fullbacks can step up and cover when the widemen go forward, we should not be afraid of losing, just determined to win and have enough belief that we will!
Wow , I think I should have stopped a few sentences earlier !:D

It would be great to have them both in the side. Out of our midfield, they are probably the only ones on the same wavelength, along with the revitalised Bobby Beckenbauer.

But impact subs they are not. Get them on from the start and do the damage in the first half, before as the pattern goes, the opposition grinds us down.

    We'll create more

With them in the side, than without and we're a better team with them both in it. But we also need to start taking the chances that we do create.

I think you will find that I have always been correct on football matters matey !!:p

We need to make other teams worry about us. Get the ball into the danger are plenty of times and WE WILL SCORE, just relying on the odd chance to win is a rubbish tactic and will only work if you have players like Saurez and Van Persie in the box waiting.

    Re: We'll create more

I think if Pedersson gets the service and Big Chris isn't kept stranded out on the left wing all the time, we will get the goals. We need a consistent run of games where all are fit and available, to really form that shape and understanding. I think my ideal midfield going forward would be -

    Bobby
    Jim - Paddy
    Mellis

I think looking further ahead, Danny can forge young Digby into the new and possibly even more ball friendly, Neil Redfearn. :)

    You're NEVER right

    When it comes to football!:D:D
I agree , we need to take the game to the opposition and play without fear. Easier said than done, I admit. As you say, the more we create, the greater the probability we'll start scoring. In my opinion, we have the manager who'll do just that.

I also think we need both. Mellis seems like he's getting his act together and working hard now. And paddy is paddy! Alot of players/fans/managers will get frustrated with him but once on the ball he can cause damage. Just wish he would mix his game up abit and pass more because he will become slightly predictable and opposition players will just mark him in numbers

I'd love to see this! I'm shocking at working out line ups though. Can anyone show me what the full 11 would look like please?

    Re: We need both

You could play it as a 4-1-3-2 system or a 4-1-2-1-2 diamond shape , with Hassell as the rear 1 and JOB and Paddy as the 2 giving width and Mellis as the front point.
The first system is flexible in that the fullbacks can push up so that we have a 2-3-3-2 at times or if using the diamond the fullbacks can push further up and overlap Paddy and O`Brien.
But formations are just a waste of time if the players dont believe in themselves.

    Re: We'll create more

Paddy needs to work on his wing play. He can hide out there and if the opposition is that worried they'll follow him, which will create space in the middle. If we take it as a given that Nyatanga will replace Kennedy, we need the outlet on the left to give C'OG a break and let him take up a striker's position for a change. It will take a more cultured ball to find Paddy, but the way Bobby is pinging it about lately, it could be a useful game play. But we have GOT to get bodies in the box..
While we are on about wingers, Jim and Wiseman need to build an understanding. Jim's turn at right/wing back under Flicker, could be quite useful next time Scott decides to go AWOL.
